As of Saturday, J and I have been happily ensconced in our new home for a week. The first night in with all of our furniture was glorious, and even the cat has shut up about having to move. We're still getting used to the new noises and creaks, and all of our neighbors with their back outside lights on all night, but its all lovely because its ours. We aren't going to receive and email notice about "landlord entry" or listen to our neighbor blow dry her hair in the morning.
When we first started moving noted how much new home buyers stimulated the economy, and at the time we'd just written a large check for a down payment and I agreed. In the past week though, that's really hit home as we needed to buy a lawn mower, vacuum cleaner, breakfast bar etc., I'm beginning to suspect that's the real reason behind banks giving you a "free" month before your first mortgage payment is due, so you have money to spend setting up house.
While there are still several odds and ends that we still need to take care of furniture wise, we've begun repainting in the kitchen this week to remove the way too dark maroon the former owners thought made the room feel "cozy". Thankfully, we really only have two small walls to repaint though we realized once we started that they'd painted before putting the cabinets up, so I kind of feel like we're doing a half assed job, but there's also really nothing we can do about that.
I'm hoping to get the wallpaper up in the living room sometime this week as well, since we're having out housewarming party this weekend. Debating whether or not/how to invite our neighbors. Since we plan on being in our house for quite some time I'd like to know our neighbors by name and feel like we live in a real neighborhood, not some temporary arrangement. J just really wants to have a party and enjoy being a homeowner, which I totally understand, I'm just a bit more reserved and want people to see the finished space, not the work in progress space.
I know, I add more stress to my life than needed.
