My mother used to sing a scrap of song that her aunt and uncle, Sue and John, apparently used to sing when they worked in the fields or garden -- this would have been rural northern Kentucky, early 20th century. I am in possession of a brief diary written in 1933 by my Great-Grandfather Spitzer. I offered to transcribe it for my dad and he was thrilled; the handwriting is sometimes difficult to read. I just found out about an hour ago that my dad is having triple bypass surgery early tomorrow morning. This developed completely out of the blue.
