i've never played any other variant, but i've heard it stated and Danny and Caylie agree based on the one game we played yesterday that it's an improvement over the original TTR because of the expanded game elements of tunnels, ferries, train stations, and long vs short routes that the original doesn't have.

I've only played this a handful of times, but it's a pretty fantastic expansion to the original Settlers due to creating multiple avenues to earn big points, thus reducing to some degree the random dice roll variance along with creating the ability for someone who in regular Settlers would have no chance to catch up from an early poor start to ( Read more... )

a couple of years ago i played dominion with kate and bryson. Since then i've played the game maybe twice in two years.

Very recently a very good clone of the original came out for the iOS, so i downloaded it and started playing it as a time waster, something that i've been needing for the past couple of days as a post-mardi gras detox.

i went to the horse track for the first time this past friday, prompted by my friend Dan who is much more familiar with it. i don't play scrabble often, but i know that when i do play i tend to play a very defensive game, making medium to strong point moves but with minimal letters designed to make it difficult for my opponent to get strong points, and then attacking large point squares when the opportunity is there. What makes this stick out from any other Risk sort of clone is that you distribute your armies after your turn is over as opposed to before. That's a weird shift in strategy that i haven't quite figured out yet; it requires more foresight to place your armies in the area that you want to attack next in addition to where you want to protect, which ( Read more... )
