Marina and I just checked into a hotel in Guatape (outside Medellin), and then it started raining, and then a song and dance number broke out on the street below our balcony (complete with a marching band playing Lady Gaga)!  Am I having fun in Colombia?  Hell Yeah!

Fire & Flux is done, at least for now.  I'm feeling a little bit of a post project let down.  But it's all within reason.  I was part of an amazing  project involving 10' columns of fire that not only worked, but completely kicked ass.  I've actually got a bit of a sunburn from it.  I guess those propane flames put out a lot of UV.  I was the line ( Read more... )

     I just got back from attending the Mycological Society of Toronto annual general meeting with Emma.  Plans have been set in motion that may result in me acquiring shiitake producing logs.  Due to my weakness when it comes when it comes to volunteering I might teach a workshop to the society on geotagging photos.  We shall see, we shall see.  ( Read more... )

I'm in Montenegro right now, having passed through Iceland (cold, had fun, rafting, glaciers, geysers), France (was well taken care of by an old friend, Audrey, you ROCK!), Greece (started well, ended badly), Albania (just passing through, crossed the border in a bullet-proof Mercedes).  I'm currently working on the tan I will never ever have.  ( Read more... )

A quick recap of the past week

-Tuesday (Sept 30th) -Met metalana at Trane Jazz Lounge to catch up (we haven't seen each other in years).  Both bands were young (especially the first one, they were in high school), but played well.  And the girl who was there to sing just one song had a surprisingly powerful voice for someone so small.  My only complaint ( Read more... )

    I left Wennappuwa Wednesday morning, waking up at the unholy hour of 6:00 AM.  It was about a 20 min hike from Frank and Seetha's house to the train station.  Ahhh, the joys of walking through the early morning mists of burning garbage.  The trip to Colombo was in a 3rd class carriage, but I did manage to get a seat after a while.  The person ( Read more... )

The Penultimate Day
