I've been feeling quite loomed by my fast-approaching Enormous Walk, happening in just over two months. Since I'm not prepared to walk through the night by myself, I can't practise distances even remotely approaching the full 72 miles, but I feel that I need to walk 30+ miles often enough that I can do so without feeling at all weary. I must have walked past this sign going on a hundred times, but always approaching it from behind and not pausing to look at it. Only today did I actually notice what it said. I am baffled and intrigued. This is at the entrance to a paved path that cuts off a sharp corner on a residential road near the edge of a town, near the sea.

Too Hot today. I was very relieved to open my door and be able to down a pint of cold water and leap into the shower. 17 miles of coastal path today, plus two thirds of a mile to home.

It was even hotter yesterday, but just enough breeze along the coast that it wasn't TOO hot, although only just. 29 miles yesterday, and I was feeling a lot wearier in the evening that I did after day 1. I've done it so many times now that I don't usually take a camera, but today the weather was just perfect, so I did. Well, that was a rare occurrence: a May morning in which we actually saw the sun, rather than one in which we peered at our rain-sodden watches, decided that the sun was probably up somewhere far behind the clouds, and hurried off to the pub for breakfast. After we both liked the grotto at Leeds Castle so much - something that could have been tacky, but was actually awesome - I decided to give Enchanted Osborne a go. A few weeks ago, a neighbour recommended a short walk that branched off from the coastal path about 5 or 6 miles from here. Last Monday I decided to walk those familiar miles of coastal path west from Cowes, do the recommended walk, then walk back home. All went well.
