i guess, most of you know I LOVE SHOES. i even considered learning to make them (but have no time for it.. and well, probably it is not my real passion to be a shoemaker! haha).
so anyway, in Rosita, where i work most of the time, people are basically farmers, and farmers in Nicaragua means "cowboys", they wear either rubberboots or leatherboots, leather belts, a cowboy hat (more modern substitution a baseball cap).. so well, after a while you can see at one glance if someone is a farmer (and coming from the surrounding villages to town) and if they are more traditional or "modern". they also still arrive in the town by their horses..
so well, since there is still a guy who has a "taller" where they take your measures and make your personal boots (you can have your monogram stitched or in different leather sown in. YEAH. i have always dreamt about that! haha). ok, back to serious. i got my personal pair of soft brown leather boots made last week!
so here are some pix of Rosita's scenery:
sitting at a "comedor" and just watching street life...
main road, a block from the office, at dawn
going to town, it is blurry because taken from a taxi going on a dirt road
store at the market
mom and me stitting at the boots' maker house's porch, watching them work ;)
and here are my custom-made boots (which i will bring home to Austria tomorrow):
:D
unfortunately i took the pic with my webcam. so the quality is rather bad.. but i was was wearing them in the office in Rosita at the time i took the pic! yeah, totally authentic.. except for my lace lycra, i guess.
