I got a netbook! Weeeee~!

Acer Aspire One - 10.1"
I got it in blue.

I have been ogling them for a long time now and am very happy to finally have one. I am not a big laptop person (I would use it as a secondary machine but I am not a fan for things like gaming. I prefer a desktop) but wanted something I could carry around that was lighter than a laptop and essentially would let me word process on the go. So when my dad mentioned how much coin they made selling the house I joked, "Well I guess you can buy me that netbook I have been looking at." and I almost fell out of my chair when he said "Sure...I will pick it up for you this weekend." /jaw drop.

I have never been a spoiled kid. I am a bit proud and like to buy my own things. My dad, while giving me wicked presents, has never given me anything frivolous. My presents have always been educational or very utilitarian (I got an elliptical for my Christmas/Birthday/Christmas present. Another year I got a sewing machine. This past birthday I got a 1TB external HD). The only time I ever went "I want that" and got it was when I was about 5 years old and there was this raven haired porcelain faced doll dressed as flamenco dancer at the grocery store.

So, needless to say, I am very thankful and shocked that I got the netbook. It isn't anywhere near the top of the line but it's a good little machine. I am sure it will serve me well.

9. Went and saw it opening night and was pretty disappointed. Back when I worked at Mercury Filmworks the short by Shane Acker had been passed around and I was pretty excited when they announced that Tim Burton would be producing a feature length film (IF you can call "just over an hour" a feature length film - I think the 91 minutes listed on Wikipedia is generous. Our showing started at 7:15 and we were out of the theater before quarter to nine.). The script and plot were pretty weak. There were awkward pauses in the dialogue which were very distracting. The plot was sort of haphazard and went this way and that without any sort of natural flow. "Oh yeah...and then this happened...and then this...and then this." Also, 80% of the movie was either taken up by establishing shots (Wide establishing shot. Pan into med establishing shot of action. Cut to close up of characters.) or chance-landing action sequences. HOWEVER, the designs were great and the animation was very well done.

I was really hoping that 9 would show the world a different side of animation and open people up to using it as a medium for all sorts of stories, but it failed horribly. Too bad. Just goes to show that just because you can string a coherent sentence together doesn't mean you should be a writer.

The Last Unicorn - "I'm Aliveeee....I'm AliiiiiiIIIIIiivveee" Chandra and I, both big fans of the movie, dragged two boys (Phil and a friend of hers) to see it on the big screen at the Mayfair. Both boys admitted that while dated, it wasn't a bad movie. Great success!

Convinced Chandra to come to some university kid's kegger Phil's friends were holding for a birthday party. It was at the Ottawa Curling Club and considering the average attendee was 19-21 years old it was a "mild one", mainly because the kegs were behind the bar. Regardless, I have a bunch of not-safe-for-the-internet stories. Those are always the best kind too. ;) Needless to say...oh dear lord some girls are skanks. I couldn't get over how many girls (and boys! Gay boys love Phil - it's funny how often he gets obviously checked out) propositioned Phil despite me being there. Not that I really minded...I sort of laughed at them as he "politely" told them to f**k off.** Did I ever drink my 10$ worth of beer though. I rarely get hung over but I had a MAJOR headache the next morning.

**Sorry if this comes off as bragging. I am not. Just really, really, really shocked. It really is a VERY different world. They had no consideration for me at all. Annoyed Phil too.

Anyways, nuff said. :)
