In other news, we're back from Mexico. I'll be posting about our doings for the last month over the next couple of days. It's been busy, fun and relaxing!

Our beloved movie rental had a nice cover piece in the New Haven Register. The owner has it exactly right: the personal interaction, with recommendations and a genuine sense of movie love, are exactly what keeps me coming back there (even though we have plenty of our own movies to watch).

New rule: All scientists quoted in articles on interstellar sex must be named after goddesses.

While I was getting breakfast at the hotel this morning, the TV was on to the morning news of a major NYC channel. The top story: not Dominique Strauss-Kahn, not Obama's speech about Israel, but rather an internet prophecy that tomorrow is the end of the world and the undead will walk the earth. The other day I caught a glimpse of a newspaper someone was reading on the metro. Its headline began with "LOL." Huh? What serious newspaper starts it's main headline with "LOL"?!? ( answer )

My mom saved me a clipping from the local newspaper about the financial situations at NJ universities. I don't think she noticed the amusing Cupertino effect in the headline:

Who knew enormous denim outfits were the cost-cutting measure needed to solve our financing problems in higher education?

These labor strikes, by the way, are majorly annoying. Public transportation has been majorly disrupted because the protests invariably spill beyond their planned routes and block the tram, but you don't know about it until it's already happened.
