End of the World

While I was getting breakfast at the hotel this morning, the TV was on to the morning news of a major NYC channel. The top story: not Dominique Strauss-Kahn, not Obama's speech about Israel, but rather an internet prophecy that tomorrow is the end of the world and the undead will walk the earth. Even the NYT had it as their central story when I loaded the page just now. I cannot believe this is even getting more than a footnote of recognition. At least on the TV, the male news anchor kept repeating this is not a scientist making these predictions, but rather an self-proclaimed internet prophet. However, his sanity was countered by the ditzy female news anchor kept giving credence by saying "Well, I'm not going to pay any bills until Sunday just in case." And the NYT article is more about how the sane members of families have trouble dealing with their apocalyptic brethren. I have to say, the best part about this is that the CDC has anticipated the frenzy by releasing an apocalypse preparedness guide. Meanwhile, some people are dealing with real disasters.
