Apparently a year or two ago a pair of hawks took up residence on campus, but eventually disappeared. A couple weeks ago Pat said one was back. Then on Friday this got proven, as the hawk placed itself on the grass not four feet from two separate sidewalk paths, and elegantly went about devouring a dead squirrel, holding the ripped pink body under ( Read more... )

So at the fireworks last night we thought it was starting to rain, but it turned out to be pieces of ash falling from the explosions that blew nearly above us. A two-inch shred of burst cardboard hit me in the shoulder. And a couple of the streaming waterfall-looking combustions appeared to almost reach back down to the ground where they shot them ( Read more... )
