With the destruction of the 卧龙 Wolong Nature Reserve, the Canadian wanted to know what the replacement panda base was. We've discovered that it is the 碧峰峡 Bifengxia Panda Base in 雅安 Ya'An City, Sichuan Province. A couple of the Canadian's friends are coming to visit China at the end of July/early August, before we return to August in mid-August ( Read more... )

Barring 2 pandas who are still missing, the rest of the pandas at the Wolong Panda reserve are apparently ok.

Apparently they are having problems because of a shortage of bamboo so they have taken to eating grass and apples. Some photos below the cut. ( Read more... )

Over 10,000 dead and the death toll is rising here in China. We have quite a lot of people from Sichuan and Chongqing in our office but fortunately all their families are safe. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Wenchuan County, Sichuan. I found out this morning that the Wolong Panda Reserve is located in the epicentre of the earthquake. ( Read more... )
