Stolen from smells_corrupt

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if ( Read more... )

Hmmmmm? Retired teacher. Tutor of all non-math portions of college and graduate school tests. Editor. Obsessive reader. Grammar Nazi, but not out loud, so as to avoid hurting others. Wears only one earring, and they're not really meant to be earrings: constructions of antique mother of pearl buttons, lavaliers, hand-made art glass, antique keys, etc. Waist-length hair with Mallen streak in the front. Wears late father's wedding ring on her right hand. Thinks normalcy is far over-rated.

Ooooh. You and I could talk funky jewelry tastes all day, I suspect. :)

I don't wear earrings often, but I have two holes in one ear and only one in the other, so when I do wear them I tend to do funky combinations.

I love, love, love statement necklaces that are big collections of chains and pearls and ribbons and dangling things. I tend to wear a lot of rings. Right now I'm wearing five: an amber stone on my pinky that my sister gave me, my wedding ring set, a big chunky silver men's ring with a barbed wire pattern on my left thumb, a cheap-ish chunky silver plated ring with a big blue stone on my right thumb, and a hematite and silver poison ring on the right pinky finger.

I also like big chunky bracelets (particularly made of studded leather) and men's watches.

I think I was a pirate or a rock star in a former life. ;)

I haven't seen Normal in years. How's he doing?

One of my favorite earrings is circle of green glass from a very old insulator I found when gardening in Germany. Another is made from my mother's white gold and my mother-in-law's gold wristwatches. Each of my earrings is rather like Tigger: as you recall, he said, "I'm the only one!" I'm currently making a choker of lively carved antique mother-of-pearl and abalone shell button on a wide grey satin ribbon stiffened with belting material. I think I was a Victorian who refused to follow the rules. And Normal, I began to walk away in 5th grade, and by 7th, he was increasingly dimly remembered. I'm a RETIRED teacher/antediluvian, so you'll need to check with someone else as to his status. We ceased to send even Christmas cards many decades ago.

What the heck:

I am a stay at home mother of two with a pair of bachelors degrees in business management and information systems, neither of which I am using in my current incarnation as a Tupperware sales lady - an ironic career choice given that I mostly hate people. I love to read and write though I get to do so rarely these days. I have a five year old son and a two year old daughter, Jack and Madison, who are the lights of my life despite the fact that they are the reason I never get to read or write anymore. I have absurdly long hair because I vowed not to cut it until I lost the baby weight after my daughter was born and well...it's been more than two years. I also dress like a baglady for the same reason. I am hardheaded and stubborn about many things, contrary and argumentative about everything else. I am also obsessive to the point of absurdity and have unintentionally devoted like 2/3 of my mental capacity to song lyrics from the 80s.

Bwahaha! So with the hating people, do you get many sales? Or do you only sell to your friends and family? Just curious how that would work out for you. You sound like most of my mom's side of the family. Which are many German, hence the hardheadedness, stubbornness and argumentative nature. If we ever met IRL we'd either get along famously or hate each other on site. :o)

I actually do pretty well with the Tupperware sales, believe it or not. I am SPECTACULAR at faking it. Even *I* am impressed at how well I smile and converse with people who irritate the ever living hell out of me.

I guess Germans and hard-core, southern rednecks have a surprising number of similarities!

I always liked the name Madison... :) and Jack is one of my favorite boys' names.

I have been vowing to lose weight for ages. It fluctuates so much, depending on what I'm doing, but I hover stubbornly at a weight that I'm not comfortable saying out loud. I don't dress like a baglady (though, when I was a kid I had a costume collection that I used to haul around the neighborhood with me in a wagon. My mother thought I would grow up to be a bag lady. ;) ). I actually really love clothes, but I keep telling myself that I can't buy new ones until I lose some weight.

Hey! I'm a full-time paramedic in my 20th year (eight left to retire, thank Gawd!!!!) Been writing since I was 15 and had originally gone to college for my English degree, but life has a funny way of derailing plans. Married, no kids, five miscarriages so I had to have my plumbing yanked which is fine with me cause no more periods. Woohoo! But now my hormones have a way of sneaking up on me since I kept the ovaries but my early warning system is now gone. Meh ( ... )

sounds fun!!

I am a single mom of 2 wonderful kiddos. Brandon is 11 and Elizabeth (Bit) is 8. I sing and play piano in my church choir. I work as a medical transcription/billing clerk, very boring but it pays the bills. I live in rural Arkansas and love it...most of the time. I read a lot but could not write my way out of a paper bag. I love to cook and knit.

How rural? Do you have horses and cows (or people with horses and cows for neighbors)?

Sometimes I think it would be really relaxing to live in the country. Then I go visit my parents, who live in a (only slightly) rural area and I think that I'd go completely nutty in about a week.

Also, I'm very jealous of your piano playing abilities. It is something that I've always wanted to learn how to do, but my brain doesn't appear to be wired musically.

Very rural, has horses, cows, goats, and a chicken coop. Closest town is 20 miles away, and its small. Closest city is 48 miles down the road.

I love the quiet we have here, it suits me. I also love gardening and having animals to get my food from. Milking the cows/goats is actually one of my favorite parts of the day lol. I love making my own cheeses and canning my own veggies, there is something very satisfying knowing where my food comes from.

It does get frustrating that things like a simple trip to the movies is a good hour trip away. I also do not like that some of the people in my community can be quite judgmental. When I adopted as a single parent it caused a stir for the Bertha-better-than-yous around here.

Fact: I'm ambidextrous. I don't have a dominant hand or foot. I write a little better with my right hand (although I can write legibly with my left), and if I'm using scissors, I'm slightly better with my left hand. But just about everything else I can do equally with both sides.

Question: Do you have any strange talents?

That *is* interesting. I'm a mild leftie, but if I learned how to do stuff right handedly, I'm mostly okay. The exception is cutlery - I hold knife and fork perfectly if left-handedly, but I can't use them. So instead I scrunch my fingers up weirdly around the handles and use them right handedly.

The only reason I'm stronger at writing with my right hand is because my first grade teacher encouraged me to use my right, tbh. Dominant vs. non-dominant limbs are really odd, when you stop and think about it...

I don't know about STRANGE, per se, but I have a lot of "talents" (or so people tell me).

I suppose the one that's probably oddest is my ability to mimic pretty much any accent I hear. I've always had an ear for accents, and my time spent on stage has only increased it. My standard British accent is practically impeccable, at least according to the Brits I've had in audiences. I can do several different regional variants of an English accent, a fairly decent (although slightly more comprehensible) Glaswegian, a basic Irish accent, Russian, German, Australian, and several American dialects, all without having to concentrate too hard.

Anything else I just have to listen to for a few minutes and I can pick up speech and accent patterns very quickly.

I think this is part of why I enjoy writing characters like Spike, as I can memorize speech patterns fairly easily and it makes writing them come more easily than others.
