Another 30 Day Meme~Favorite Relationships
This one I am taking from Escalove and Schellibie. I also seem to share the same taste with those two so expect some of the same answers.
However I am also going to take a cue from Schellibie and do more than one response a day. I think I will do 3 a day so this will be more like the 10-Day meme. :)
1) Favorite Het Pairing: Fakir & Ahiru (Princess Tutu)
I am not even sure how I can begin to explain how much I love this pairing. Okay first of all I love the whole development of their relationship from not liking each other at first, to becoming allies, to becoming friends, to I think becoming something more in the end. Even more importantly I love how they inspired each other to see their true worth in their selves. That they don't need special powers to save the ones their friends and loved ones. The moment when Fakir says he will stay by Ahiru's side forever gets me every time.
Also I think I am one of the few people in the fandom who is happy with how the story ended with Ahiru as a duck. For me it was one of the most poetic endings ever. I don't read Princess Tutu fanfiction 1) Because I think the story is perfect as is 2) I don't like stories where Ahiru gets turned back into a girl
For me it takes away from the beauty of the ending. And sure that means Fakir/Ahiru can't be together together in the end but I like imagining Fakir as someone who never gets married and people think he is a little crazy because he is so affectionate with his pet duck. :)
2) Favorite Yaoi Pairing: Holmes & Watson (Sherlock Holmes)
Okay I am not saying it is canon necessarily but Holmes & Watson (in any incarnation) is one of the only times when fandom ships a non-canon pairing that I can really see the possibility for it. I mean sure Watson is married but I have never seen such a non-entity of a character as his wife (and I am hoping if he gets married in the new series his wife will have more of a part).
And nothing is ever mentioned of Holmes having a relationship with any women (just some admiration for Irene). Well if you ship Holmes & Watson or not you have to admit those two men were dedicated to each other for such a long long time. And the only time in the books we ever see Holmes show real emotion was when he thought his friend Watson was shot. In the new BBC series we see Holmes rushing to Watson's aid to get a bomb off him (his reaction even shocks Watson). They might be few and far between but I love moments like that.
Honorable Mention: Yuri and Wolfram in Kyou Kara Maoh. I like this pairing a lot. Sure it might be a bit one sided on Wolfram's part but I am hoping Yuri will one day see the light. Problem is I don't really like Kyou Kara Maoh all that much to find out, hence why it only gets an honorable mention. :)
3) Favorite Yuri Pairing: Nana & Hachi (Nana)
I never saw a story more ruined by the addition of male characters than Nana. I think Ai Yazawa has been on hiatus for awhile with this manga (if I am not mistaken) but I would not even consider starting this series again unless there is an announcement that Nana and Hachi realize they are in love and buy that apartment where they first started living together. That's probably the only thing that can save the manga truly. They could also leave town together, but together is the important part.
But even though I don't like the soap opera the story turned into I really love those two girls and I still proudly wear my Nana pocketbook that I got one year in Otakon.
Honorable Mention: Sheryl and Ranka in Macross Frontier. Most of the fandom was arguing over who would get Alto. But I was thinking hmmm those two girls have more chemistry with each other. I think I was pretty satisfied with the OT3 ending. Honorable mention only because I didn't think of it first. :)
