Has it Been 11 Days?

Aug 19, 2008 17:02

Wow, 11 days since my last entry. I will admit that last week was a bit of a blur. I worked some days from home and when I do that I don't really take any LJ breaks because working from home is sorta its own break by itself. But I think I'm also going through one of those periods where I just don't feel the need to plug in as much as I had been. I'm sure that'll change (or it won't).

11 days... hmmm... Well, some of my LJ downtime has to do with playing more City of Heroes (COH) of late. Now that a handful of my pals are on there it's a lot easier to team up and anyone who play COH/V will quickly agree that the game is waaaay better when you are teamed up with folks. Mr RealityCheck dinged 19 yesterday so I'm making progress. I did a respec that allowed me to re-choose my powers and I got rid of my first fitness pool power and a buff and replaced 'em with a mob blind power and a solo healer (that I can't use on myself but that works well on others). Those along with my new Illusionary Army power (I summon three super heroes who wail on baddies for about 2 minutes - the power rocks bigtime) make me a happy geek. So yeah, COH has been a nice and fun addition to my geeky routine.

I've been getting in some volleyball and that's been good. I played last Thursday and wow - the games were super competitive and even though I was getting blocked more (read: stuffed) it made me have to really think and change up my hitting so it was a good thing.

After v.ball I joined some of the guys to see Pineapple Express. I thought it was a lot of fun really. Nothing huge but totally entertaining. Seth is such a hotty and the other guy in it really was great. Saw previews for a few other comedies that look good (Role Models and the one with the kid from Arrested Development).

On Friday I got to see the opening night of Spring Awakening at the newly restored Balboa Theater. I had a FRONT ROW CENTER seat and the touring cast was impressive. I tell you, I've not been so moved by a live musical in my life as I have been by this show. I'd say Company is a close second in how it resonates with me, but SA live is an event. I really do encourage you to check with your local theaters to see when the tour is coming your way. Ben from SF was in town this weekend and he actually scored a seat for the show too so it was nice to have him there and catch up some. We actually were standing right next the producer, Tom Hulce (looking good in his beard) when we met up in the aisle near the soundboard after the show so that was cool.

After the show we went over to Dan and Chris' pad where they were having a night before the wedding type get together. It was nice and relaxing and a good opportunity to meet some of their friends who were in town for the big event. Oh, that's right - before the show I went to Mikey's picnic in the park and finally got to meet the most excellent
chrisglass and his wonderful partner Dan. That was a real treat. And to top it off
beefurjoe and John had just arrived from SF so I got to see them too.

Saturday we all had brunch together and then it was time to get ready for the wedding. A lot of folks have posted about how wonderful it was and each of them was quite correct. It really was a special day with amazing people - supportive friends and family from all over. Was excellent to see the LA men who had come up for the day and to reconnect some. I miss the LA guys. I really do need to get back up there and spend some time. Watching Chris and Dan recommit their lives to each other had the tears collecting in my eyes. If you haven't taken a moment to send some support to the Vote No on Eight campaign and you'd like to I'd really encourage you. To fight down the constitutional amendment would be a HUGE step forward for us all. You can show your support for both the cause and for Chris and Dan by clicking here.

That night we just sorta relaxed with some of the gays and it was the perfect end to a mighty fine day.  PS -
bearringsd can make a kick ass wedding cake!

On Sunday I met up with some of the boys (with encouragement to get out of bed from Mikey) for brunch at Hash House. I had this massive quesadilla thing that had cheese, fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, and bacon in it with an awesome chili sauce. Wow - it was quite an undertaking! I had to work that evening so I headed up to Carlsbad for the big night. It went smoothly - so smoothly that I headed back down around 7:30 and met up with all the guys at Pizza Explosion. They were gently buzzed and in good spirits but it was clear that the party was winding down. Joe and John came over to see my new apartment after that and we got to hang out a bit. Those guys are so great. I just don't get to see them enough really.

Yesterday was a typical day. I picked up my new glasses (oops - *puts them on*). I went to have my eyes checked last week and my doctor recommened that I pick up a perscription for when I'm reading/working on the computer/or gaming (so yeah, all the time basically). I like the glasses - I mean, they don't look too horrible.

So yeah, went to work at the bar last night and it was actually a good shift. Busy and quick - made quicker with watching the Olympics. Then total odd grossness occured. We had a Poo Assasin strike. This is gross - so you've been warned. Basicually, someone went into the Women's bathroom and (as far as we can discern from the evidence) tried to cop a really messy squat in the direction of the sink. Well, shit shrapnal landed in/on/around the sink and surrounding walls (yes, walls). It was like someone had taken aim and hit a full colon with a shotgun. Luckily, i didn't have to clean it up. Tom was on hand to take care of it and he actually did a really good job. I did my part by putting up a sign on the door that said "Seriously, you do NOT want to go in there" to keep people out.

In other news...

Ok, I'm about 5 episodes in on Buffy and... well, it's ok. I'm not blown away. I've been told it gets better... so I'm gonna let it.
The Wire Season 3 was awesome. Cannot wait for more!!!
Watched Crash and thought it was decent.
Watched Bear Run and thought it was really poorly conceived and put together. They should have taken (very sexy) transbear and done a doc just on him, aced the sash queen bear-by-default guy, and gone to some events and really interviewed some people. It almost makes me want to just do a doc myself. To ask and examine the questions that we here on LJ discuss and debate on a weekly basis.
Work is different each day and while I do not know where I will land it's a good experience either way.
I do not miss cable at all (ok, I have sorta missed it with the Olympics going on).
Radiohead (pit itx) a week from Wednesday!!!
