The Dude Abides - Feeling my 35

Howdy y'all. A handful of items to get down in the ol' LJ today...

I had a great birthday. It was nice and mellow really just how I'd hoped it would be. The Friday before was the big birthday party in which I got drunk and made out with cute boys so on my actual birthday I just relaxed in the park with some friends, ate pizza, and played frisbee - good times.

The Gang at my Birthday Pizza Picnic

bearxxl and I followed that up with a trip to Disneyland the next day. Kevin and Mike joined us and we really did have a great day. The park wasn't all that crowded and we road all the core rides at least once (Space, Buzz, M.Horn x2, Alice, Toad's, Thunder, Haunted, Pirates, Indy, Splash, Screamin', Grizzly, Tower...) including the brand new Toy Story (x2) ride which kicks arse! It's a 3D interactive ride where you are basically playing carnival games (target shooting). There are 4 or 5 boards where you shoot targets and try and unlock more targets with higher point values. It's competitive, addictive, and fully able to induce massive carpel tunnel syndrome. We left the park around 4:30 or 5 because we had pretty much gone on everything we wanted to and were already pretty pooped. I should say that the day started out crappy with my car getting broken into. I left an empty laptop bag in the back (yeah, I know - stupid!) and they broke in and just took that. I had about $250 in birthday money and the window was $190. Happy Birthday to me!

This week has been going well. Work is very much in full on big changes mode but I'm feeling pretty good about the direction it's heading. Something really heavy went down yesterday that I may or may not blog about down the road. For now it's one of those things I need to digest a bit more before I'm ready to talk about it (it's not about me, I'm fine - it's just an intense sorta deal).

I played WoW for the first time in months with
jpinsd and
rugbybearpa this week. Ron even joined in a bit the other night too. My Shadow priest is a 30 now so with the changes to the game I have a mount and I have the super nifty Vampiric Embrace. V.E. gives me my first real feel of what it'll be like to operate as a true Shadow Priest and I like it. I'm not 100% back into the game but I am 100% enjoying playing with my bears on there.

The game I am totally back into now is City of Heroes.
maverick1303 pushed me over the cliff and got me to re-up my account. When I got back on I found that all my old characters were still there and that COH had given me all of these awards and bonuses based on my 19 or so months of previous play. I first went back to my old stand-by build (me and the COH bears who are starting up again sorta agreed to make new toons) the Dark/Elec Defender. Which is all fine and good. He's a cool toon but I just wasn't feeling it for some reason. So I thought - heck, if we are gonna play in groups then I'll try out a Controller because I've always wanted to. I made an Illusion/thermal radiation toon called Mr RealityCheck and he's really F'ing fun to play. The Illusion set is great as it blinds bad guys or turns them again themselves. Eventually he'll get a phantom army and some really fantastic big powers. On the thermal radiation side there are some good buffs, quality heals, and a nice res as well. I played in a 7 group last night and I was lighting it up in a big way. As I went to stop playing I just randomly looked at the badges I had and bonuses I got for being a longtime player. Well, I found out I have these nifty bonus looks for my normal running skills that make my guy light up in different ways (both gay and cool). I also got to choose between an add power or a fucking axe! Well, as a controller I'm limited on in-close hits so I took the axe and it's swell. Here's a cruddy pic of Mr Reality Check and his axe:

If you play COH and are interested in joining up with us we're all just getting started with new toons on Victory. I know Matt made a super group we'll use. My global on there is @JedeyeBH.

Other stuff? I loved the first few episodes of Freaks and Geeks that I've watched so far, my friend is letting me borrow all of his Buffy DVDs, I have downloaded but still haven't watched Dr Horrible, I'm hooked on The Sopranos, I'm still digging The Wire, and I love that I can keep up with Project Runway on YouTube. Cable-free existence is treating me very well. Netflix helps a lot. I will miss being able to watch the Olympics in HD at home but I'll survive.

So what's going on with y'all? I'm reading yer LJs but tell me something new.

friends, stuff, birthdays, coh, work, wow, disney, life
