It's 8am. In 30 minutes I have a conference call. From that point on my day is filled with interviews and meetings. I'm checking out candidates for our new FT position as well as Wimbledon support Reps so it'll be a day of me saying and asking and warning of the same things over and over again. At least I get to take a lunch break with the glamorous
jill_sd. From work I'll probably try and squeeze in some volleyball and then it's off to see Indy3 with some of the bears. My expectations are low based on the LJ buzz but I'm a completist geek so I can't imagine not seeing the latest installment in the theater.
Last night was the first dinner for the SD Sushi Bears. I gotta say, it was a nice, fat success. We went out to
Harney Sushi in Old Town. I ran across their website after doing some poking for good sushi and decided that it looked worth checking out. And wow, I'm glad I did because it ended up being a great place to start off what I hope to be a regular get-together.
Atmosphere was hipster-esque with a nice cocktail bar posted opposite the sushi bar. Big tank of fish (which lead to many jokes) in the middle of the room separating two of the dining areas from the third outdoor area. We were seated inside (10 of us including
bearxxl,
danlmarmot,
bearringsd, Dave , Tyler, Todd, TJ, Bill, and Mike R.) and quickly got into picking out what rolls and items to go with. For me I went with a rainbow roll (yes, it's typical but for me it's like a sushi litmis test - like ordering eggs at a diner), the Hawaii 5-0 and the James Bomb. Yes, this was a fusion place... Yes, I know rolls aren't traditional sushi... And wow, these were soooooo good! H5.0 had tuna and eel and the James Bomb was this amazing tempura CA Roll with Scallops and yummy sauce with crab all up on top. The guys got a nice mix of items and we did a lot of passing and sharing and by the time we were done we were all filled to the gills (*zing*). So much so that we took a nice little constitutional around Old Town to help things settle. I still went into a full-on sushi coma when I got home. If you're a local I would HIGHLY recommend Harney. I will definitely be going back for more.
I saw some kids walking in Old Town so I asked 'em to take a photo of the group "You guys are young, you can take a decent photo with a cell phone!"...
