Yesterday ended up working out okay, mostly. The carpooling is awesome but getting up at 5:20 is rough. I've been doing this semi-slack 9am/10am business for so long. I gotta say though, getting home by 5pm has been awesome. I might be losing a bit of sanity and sleep but the extra time to get things done (aka be alive) is a bonus.
Two of my meetings were canceled yesterday - bonus. All three interviews went well. I found the person I want to hire FT and today I finalized that decision. The other two applicants were great so we'll offer them posts for that major tennis event on grass in a handful of weeks. It feels really go to have that over and done with.
Once I got home yesterday I quickly changed and scooted over to the park to play some volleyball. It wasn't exactly a banner day for me on the grass. I figure it was a combo of lack of sleep but more than likely it's the whole getting up early and not having breakfast that was leaving me with less energy than normal. I just couldn't quite get my shit together. We were using a lighter ball as well and with the breeze it just added to my frustration. I really only got one solid winner in, in the 4 or 5 games I played. A handful of blocks and some other kills but I still felt off. I'm sure getting totally owned on a few of my spike attempts didn't help. My fellow players are sooo aware of my tendency to go angle (my one solid kill was a nice line). So yeah, v.ball was fun but I felt grouchy and lame most of the time. I can be such a pissy bitch sometimes...
So with that great mood in mind, I headed right from the park to the mall to see Indy with a bunch of the gays (changed shirt/shorts first). I'm gonna put my thoughts about the film (and LOST) behind a cut down below if you wanna read 'em. Was good to see a lot of the guys out for the movie and I got to meet some new people too. After the movie I stayed a bit to chat and then headed on home to watch LOST.
Tonight I think it'll be laundry and then sleeping a little extra tomorrow morning. Then it's off to the mall again for Cosmos, Mani/Pedis, and Sex in the City with Matt, Mikey and many of the other SitC faggits.
Indy 4
I totally got most of the complaints that have been made about the movie already...
Crappy dialogue - Check
Forced CGI - Check... I mean, come on.. you guys have Oprah money and you are filming on a soundstage and adding CGI backgrounds like you're doing an episode of Ugly Betty... Sheesh! The jungle was very 2.0 as well... boo.
Rehashed Elements - Check... Spies and Lies, going for glory and getting a comuppence...
Unbelievable Shit - Check ... 3 waterfalls? surviving in a fridge?
Bland as toast badguys(gals) - Check ... Sorry Cate, I think you are aces but that uma-cut rapier rusky was tired...
All that being said, it's not like the series hasn't rolled that way since Indu jumped out of a plane with Kate Kapshaw in a rubber raft. George Lucas makes movies that he wants to watch and pretty much says fuck all y'all when it comes to if we like it or not. I can respect that but I don't have to like it. I did like all the small nods... the Ark, Cap shadow, Paramont "mountain" opening, and rehashing lines from previous Indy's (and even Star Wars - which
jpinsd pointed out). I think Shia did a good enough job and I liked how Indy left him alone in a building at the end. It was a nice passing of the torch (er, wip)...
LOST
Nicely done... I thought it might be Locke so that was a great way to close out the season. More importantly it really kept a lot of the mystery around the island going. I mean, there's so much more to say/do/find out... I wasn't all that worried that the finale wouldn't pay off but I just had this nagging sense that they weren't going to show who was in the coffin. So glad that didn't happen. Awesome to see Walt back (and 3 years helps to explain his growth). Awesome that Penny and Desmond finally are reunited. Awesome that we now know exactly how the Oceanic "six" came into being. Awesome that Jin is totally not dead (yeah... come on, you know he's not dead)... Awesome that Ben maintains his hold as a solid, integuiging character without getting tiresome. All kinds of awesome!
Now tonight it's BSG's next episode and then... yes... I'm serious this time... goodbye cable. I told myself I could have the season finales of LOST and Ugly Betty and tonight's BSG but then it had to go... Pray for me...
Oh, I bought the latest revival of Company on Bluray. I caught it on PBS' Great Performances and it was so, so, so good that when I saw it on Amazon for 20 bucks I clickied it... and now it's hear... Yaay. If you're a broadway gay you've probably already heard/seen this production but if for some reason you haven't I'd recommend it highly.
