The past week has been interesting; fun stuff sprinkled in with studying, reading, working out, traveling, and getting caught up.
Last Tuesday
nickyad and I headed up to cool Flagstaff. The weather was beautiful and the air so clean! Unfortunately while packing I made the discovery that my Casio camera battery malfunctioned. Fortunately I discovered that it will only take a quick call to customer service to replace the battery kit, apparently it is a common problem. So, things were interesting without my camera. I didn't feel like lugging my larger Kodak with me, but if I had a Rebel, that would have been a different story! Anyhow, Nicky had a conference to go to so I spent that time working on classwork and then we have 2 evenings together. The first night was spent in the jacuzzi and the second night we got pedicures and then headed to Lowell Observatory. It was super! We got to look through their oldest telescope (about a hundred years old) and looked at a globulous cluster of stars. The amount of stars was amazing! Then we looked at Saturn through another telescope and I could even make out 2 of it's moons.
On Thursday my sister and brother met us in Flagstaff and then the 3 of us headed up to the rez for a visit with my dad, and then to NM to see my mom. I'm not even going to get into the frustration over my dad's pack rat/hoarding problem but we had a BBQ and I made some nummy tofu. I marinated it with a variety of things that were hanging around, mostly teriyaki flavor.
Then we headed to Gallup to see my mom. We went to the Flea Market looking for jewelry, and I was annoyed that I didn't get anything. Then we went to a firework stand and loaded up on pyro items. That night we set off some fountains and roman candles, and then played with the sparklers. We had a blast taking photos of them.
Mmmmm . . . fireworks . . .they smell good!
My mom's awesome bike!
Octopussy!
Pacman and ghost!
Pacman and cherry!
Lolipop!
I also spelled out my name and we made hearts and stars and various other things. I also brought some fireworks home *SHHHHHH* because they aren't allowed in Arizona. I feel guilty now, though, because I have to be super responsible not to start a fire! Hopefully I don't chicken out.
My sister and I returned on Sunday and I spent Monday writing my paper and I spent today taking my final exam. I have now completed 3 master's classes and I have another starting on Monday! Surprisingly I am getting a lot out of them, besides headaches and work to do!
Interspersed in all these activities I have made it to the library to pick up every Harry Potter audio book that I put on hold. Unfortunately, I left my MacBook power cord at my mom's so won't be able to use it until my brother returns this weekend. So sad! It is going to take me forever to import them, each ranges from 17-23 discs each! In other book news I am listening to
The Way We Eat:
Why Our Food Choices Matter on audiobook (highly recommend!) and about 1/2 way done with
The Host. It is no where near as involved as the Twilight series, but it is a good read so far.
Another plus to this summer is
nickyad 's guest pass to the gym. I've gone with her several times to try out their classes and machines. I was DREADING going, but it turns out, I actually enjoyed it (except for the tortuous spinnging class . . . AHHH!). I love the yoga class and we tried out pilates last night (ouch abs) and I think I'll be signing up once her guest passes are done.
I still have so much to do this summer and it is quickly slipping away. I have about 3 weeks left, but I am already heading to the school tomorrow to pick up the 6th grade materials. There is still so much to do!
