I lead our group to the next room, where the floor had crumbled away years ago. I sidled around the walls on the bits of concrete floor that remained, casually ignoring the lack of handholds and the thirty-foot drop. Everyone else marveled or worried for a moment, then found another way around.

Thursday, Feb 27th:

A puckish gnome disappeared from the basement where Tom had been arguing with it. Steve came down the stairs and opened the door into the empty garage.

"Where's the car?" he asked.

Tom realized the gnome must have transformed their car into an invisible bicycle.

We played a primitive old arcade game in a dingy back room; it looked like pinball without all the moving parts. A rooster dragon walked through a garden to the high stone wall at its edge. A broad brick path separated the jungle of plants from the tall granite slabs that had bordered it for centuries. Tuesday morning I dreamt of bureaucracy.

Alyssa and I drove to an old house converted into offices. We had to submit some financial paperwork, but it was after sundown. We caught the office attendant jogging towards the door with an armful of papers, and she told us she couldn't take our forms until tomorrow.
