Cross-posted to dailyexerciseI took a rest day from the gym yesterday. I felt bad about not being able do a "gym buddy check-in" but I've just been exhausted and felt I REALLY needed a sleep-in morning

I did have a "near-miss collision" with a guy on a Zappy Electric Scooter as I was turning the corner at AT&T Park. I hit the ground, which normally leads to a total melt-down, but I basically just bounced up and got back on the bike and finished my ride for a total of about 11.12 miles in 1 hour 22 minutes.
Ouch! Did you get an apology? Hope you weren't banged up too badly?
The one positive is that I'm doing very well in terms of building up the mileage on my long runs to train for Giant Race 1/2 marathon in August.
WTG!! You are an inspiration! Your half is coming up fast - I'll be watching your progress with great interest.
I'm not running tonight, and it bugs me to no end, but I just don't want to risk further injury. I'll play it by ear for Sunday, but until then it's rest, rest, rest.
The near miss was pretty much my fault. In fact, I was sort of bellowing "I'm sorry," as I went down. No bang-up at all from what I can tell, which is pretty amazing.
Rest can be hard, when you've been in training. Can you at least go for a walk, or maybe do a very light stationary bike workout at the gym?
Yeah, I will probably go for a walk. That's a good idea, actually, as I can break in the new inserts I got for my running shoes. They're fitted to conform to the shape of my feet. I have high arches, so they're supposed to help combat the over-pronation, which is the underlying cause of my shin splint.
Glad to hear you're ok! You may feel it tomorrow, though. I'd advise a bath with epsom salts this evening, to counteract any stiffness you might develop.
Yeah. I'm actually surprised I didn't feel any bruising or anything. Maybe I had endorphins going by that point because I'd been out for nearly 1/2 hour and done about 4.25 miles.
Enjoy your walk. After the downpour on Tuesday, we're now having gorgeous weather. Of course, SF being what it is, the fog will be in on Monday night and no fireworks will be visible anywhere.
Our fireworks will be tomorrow night, but I never really bother with them. I don't find sitting on a lawn chair in the middle of a field, with cigarette smoke billowing past me, an enjoyable experience. (Lots of smokers around here, unfortunately).
The walk was good, although of course it doesn't feel like I got much of a workout. I walked the warm-up route, then walked up & down the hill three times while the rest of the crew ran up 5 times. I went as fast as I could without running, but barely broke a sweat, and was not out of breath at all. *shrugs* Better than nothing I suppose.
The new inserts feel good so far. It'll be interesting to see how they are to run in.
Okay, even if it was your fault, if it had been me in the scooter I think I would have stopped to see if you were okay!! (In fact I'm pretty sure in NYC it's the law.)
