Mum had a GP appointment today. Yes, on a Saturday. With our lovely Muslim GP. A few weeks ago he went to her house for a consultation, which was lovely and unexpected. Woke up this morning with a sore throat and earache to add to the cold and headache, so I finally declared sick-leave. I read a lot, caught up with some recorded tv, knitted, and made a chocolate cake.

I had forgotten how miserable a cold can be. OldBloke let me sleep in this morning. I woke up when my nose was so blocked I couldn't snore properly. I have spent most of the day sneezing, waiting for the tickle in my nose to turn into a sneeze, or blowing my nose. And I ache, mostly in my kidneys.

Since Dad died last August, Mum has lost two stone. She's never been a big eater (nor a cook, that was Dad's job) and going gluten-free didn't help. She mentioned it to the GP when she first moved here and they arranged for a dietitian to come to her, which has helped - she has bottles of high calorie milky drinks, for a start. It's definitely autumn. There's a chill in the air in the mornings, and more and more trees are starting to change colour and discard their leaves. Worker is back in today - not swine flu.

However, my prof's bro, to whom I was introduced at graduation on Friday, does have swine flu. As she said this morning, all of a sudden it's more real now we know someone first hand who has it.
