Today I had my forensic anthropology midterm. I don't think it went very well. That week when I was sick and missed class has got me behind in everything, and no matter how much I study it seems like I can't catch up with my classmates because it is a very, very fast-paced class. I never thought of words like "inhumation", "defleshing" and "skeletonization" as being particularly specialized, but Word's spellcheck doesn't like them.

Interesting.

The quiz in my mummy class wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It wasn't easy, to be sure - since it's a physical anthropology class there's a focus on the evidence for diseases found in the mummies, so my cultural knowledge of Egyptian society and associated religious rites wasn't all that useful. It turns out that we had a quiz in my archaeology methods class on Tuesday, so while I was gallivanting in Disneyland with Seanie I also managed to wreck my grade in that class. DANG IT.

On the plus (?) side, my quiz in my mummies class isn't until next Tuesday. I definitelywon't be missing that one.

I totally forgot to mention it, but last week after I finished my second day of Forensic Anthropology, I went online and dropped the class. While I think it'll be important to learn all the bones of the body, and the material the class covers would be fascinating to learn, now is not the time for it. I talked to the head of the anthropology department today about my double major. He signed my paper for a major/minor, but warned that he really didn't think I'd be able to do a double major, given the current political situation at the school. SJSU wants students OUT as fast as possible, so even if you can prove that a double major is important ( Read more... )
