Last year I went to the Nine Worlds Geekfest, and I was back there again last weekend. I enjoyed it, and I've already bought my ticket for 2015, so I'd recommend it to anyone with similar interests.

Last weekend I went off to the Nine Worlds convention. (I originally backed the Kickstarter project in February.) This was quite an ambitious event, but overall I think it worked out well; the only problems I had were related to the hotel facilities.

This weekend I've been at Picocon (ICSF's annual convention). I used to go every year, but my attendance has been a bit more sporadic in recent years, partly because I've often been busy with SJA duties. Today I took the day off work to go to Star Trek London convention. It's running for 3 days, but I'm busy for the next 2 days with SJA duties. I've been to a few conventions before, but I'm more interested in meeting writers than actors. Picocon (at Imperial College) is good for that. Not much to report from this week (other than today); I've been keeping busy at work. I've booked my next Microsoft exam (SQL Server, 70-229) for Thursday, so now I need to get a move on and read the books. First up, my PC is now running properly again, which is good. Short version: there was a compatibility problem between the sound card and one of the RAM channels, but installing the latest sound card drivers fixed that. So, no more random freezing, huzzah! It even plays "the mp3 ... of DOOM!" so there wasn't a problem with that file after all ( Read more... )
