I've been reading comics for a long time. I started out with the Beano when I was very young (maybe 5 years old?) then I moved onto the Eagle when I was about 10, and I moved to American comics when I went off to university at 18. I read a blog post earlier: What Taking My Daughter to a Comic Book Store Taught Me. The basic gist is that the writer took his children to a comic shop, and there were lots of comics suitable for his son but hardly any that were suitable for his daughter. However, I think there's more to it than that.

Last year I went to the Nine Worlds Geekfest, and I was back there again last weekend. I enjoyed it, and I've already bought my ticket for 2015, so I'd recommend it to anyone with similar interests.

A few new comics have launched this month, so I've picked up issue #1. I intend to keep reading them all (i.e. I'll be buying #2), but they varied in quality.

I recently (re)watched Wreck-It Ralph. It's a very good film, and one of the themes is balance: the protaganist needs an antagonist, otherwise they're out of a job. That makes sense on a meta level for story structure, but I think it can also work within a story.
