Kyoto Part 2

Jun 25, 2007 19:22

It was kind of unfortunate we only had 2 days in Kyoto. So much to do and explore in this quaint little city. There's something for everyone, food, shopping, historical sights, etc.

Given the limited time we have on the 2nd day, we focus our energy on the north-western part of Kyoto.

I've seen photos of the Golden Pavilion, but nothing can match seeing it with your own eyes. Standing quietly in the middle of the lake, this golden structure shines brilliantly under the sunny skies. If you think this is lovely, one can only imagine how it will look against the red leaves during autumn, or against the pretty white sakura flora during spring.

On our way towards Arashiyama, we chanced upon this interesting hair salon... I guess it does not take much to tell a good haircut from a bad one.

First stop at Arashiyama is Tenruyji temple.

There's so much to do at Arashiyama. There's temples, street-full of little stores and restaurants/cafes, etc. You can stroll through the bamboo forest , ride through the streets on a rickshaw (pulled by cute Japanese hunks with firm butts, haha), take a romantic train ride to Kameoka, or drift down the Hozu river in a traditional Japanese boat.

At the end of the train ride, a lush greenery of padi fields greeted us.
