We were lucky to land ourselves a tradtional Ryokan for our Kyoto leg accomodation. Situated a mere 5 mins walk away from Kyoto Station, Heianbo is everything we wanted and more. Located off the main street, in a little alley, it is away from the hustle and bustle at central Kyoto, yet just a stone's throw away from food, bus station, JR station, etc.
Kyoto Station is a sight by itself. I love the whole glass feel to it, very bright and modern.
Kyoto tower as seen outside the Kyoto station
Heianbo - our home away from home
The little passageway that greeted us at the lobby, leading to the small little Japanese garden in the middle of the ryokan
Our tatami-styled room, spacious enough for all 3 SGNs and our barang barang.
Even though we had our own private bath, we went for the communal bathroom that evening... and J and I ended up having a little soak of our own, simply enjoying the warm water and tranquality of the evening... while S, I guess she was too shy to join us and scurried away after her shower.
Our first stop in Kyoto is Kiyomizudera. I love the view from the temple, looking down at the quaint little streets below. And we had fun exploring the streets leading to and from the temple, full of sights and smells.
OK, I am NOT trying to take an up-skirt pic of the girl :P Was trying to take a picture of the girl in her Cosplay outfit... but it ended up looking like this:
The view from the temple is simply breathtaking. We met 3 little schoolgirls asking us for our autographs... no, they did not mistake us for celebrities. They were simply trying to fill up their school assignment booklet asking foreigners at the temple to sign their name. Maybe they will end up like the 3 SGNs from SG visiting the temple in future, haha
Next stop, Yasaka shrine enroute to Gion. The facade was under maintenance so I did not managed to get a pic of it. But the interior grounds of the temple is huge. And full of little shrines.
And there is a shrine for EVERYTHING. Check out this Beauty Shrine... devoted to those who want to be blessed with good looks and figure.
Hung on the tree outside the shrine are the wishes made by the devotees of the shrine. And this one, written by an over-zealous devotee, tops it all, with her list of 15 items. I wonder how long she took to write it.
This one sums it all.. beautiful boobs, butt, waist and legs.
And you don't leave the shrine without dabbing the holy water EVERYWHERE. And I mean everywhere....face, neck, chest, body, etc, haha. Just to be safe what!
In Gion, we chanced upon this famous shop renowned for their blotters...yeah, you heard me right, facial blotters.
Possibly a Geisha apprentice? Saw her shopping for blotters.. with a man in yukata in tow. Couldn't resist taking a pic of her coiffed hair
Some sights in the Gion district...
Coming up in Part II of Kyoto, the famous Golden paviliion and Arayshiyama
