Grant's Gym

They get more pathetic every day -- couple of bruisers wandered into his boxing class a few weeks back. Heard a rumor that Ted Grant used to be a superhero. Grant rolled his eyes at that one, a bit. Said they wanted to be superheroes, too. Grant told 'em to try getting bit by a radioactive spider. They weren't amused.

But, they shelled out for the ( Read more... )

And just like that, she's got her arm around his shoulders, doing that almost casual lean against him that she does from time to time, lookign at them as well. Selina sniffs a bit. "That's what they paid for? Sloppy punches and weakeness on the left?"

She's teasing him, certainly.

Ted wraps his arms around the pretty lady.

"You know what's sad? This is improvement. Few weeks ago, Ma Hunkel could take 'em both down. Today? I'd only give her even odds. Maybe if they surprised her. Robin'd still wipe the floor with 'em."

"That is very, very sad." Selina shakes her head, chuckling softly at that, "There are plenty of days Robin could take me, though." Robin /is/ really good.

"Oh, no disrespect for the boy wonder, he IS good," but it would mortify these guys to get their butts handed to 'em by a kid like that."

He smiles at the thought.

"Hey, Billy! Good to see ya'! Get suited up and I'll run you through the medium course again!"

He turns to Selina.

"Now there's a kid with potential. Not gonna be a ninja anytime soon, but a good attitude and a good work ethic."

"Being a ninja isn't all people think it is anyway." Selina nods at the kid with a smile.

His face floods red with a blush at her nod and he quickly vanishes into the locker room.

In another corner of the gym, a small blonde woman is doing what would be considered katas, if her form were perfect. A casual observer might dismiss her as a beginning judo student. A more experienced eye would recognize an experienced fighter who mixes schools and styles the way a painter mixes pigment.

Ted nods to her as he fetches his gloves.

Kind of a rule in the cape biz -- everyone drinks at Warriors, and everyone trains at Grant's...

She works a wave at him into her routine. The smile requires no effort at all.

Ted strolls into the ring without his usual flourish or fanfare. He seems casual -- although the trained fighters in the room an see he's making a concerted effort to conserve energy. He doesn't bother with most of the people he fights, so it's a mark of respect.

The untrained fighters just think he's not taking it seriously, when the opposite is true.

Selina is making sure to stretch out. She knows he takes her seriously. He took her seriously even when he didn't have to. He's taught her so much...

She puts a mouthpiece in. The last time she fought Ted, he loosened her teeth, so she's being careful about it this time. "You ready?"

"I'm ready. Bring it on."

Cautiously, he locks his gaze on hers, and begins to circle the ring, watching for an opening.

Selina chuckles softly, though it doesn't mean she's taking this any less seriously. She circles as well. He's mostly a boxer, she's got more styles under her belt than that... Watching, she rolls her shoulders a bit, not yet seeing where she wants to step in.

The door opens - Holly Go-Nightly sticks her head in, with a friendly grin and a wave.

Selina and Ted are sparring - how cool is that? She watches appreciatively.
