He could hear the sound of water trickling on stone.
It was a slow sound that could gradually blur a person’s sense of reality.
Inuyasha opened his eyes. The light inside the room wavered in his vision. Although he would dearly wish to lie down, his hands were pinned against a giant tree. From where was the water seeping into the room?
Looking at his hands, he realized the sound came from his own blood dripping on the floor.
Even though the amount of blood he had lost could have killed him in his weakened state, he was still alive.
Life was not something that could be abandoned so easily.
“Kagome…please be safe until I come for you…”
How many times had he repeated the same prayer?
Then why did he still let her face such danger? If only he protected her a little better…
Suddenly an intense flame of dazzling anger was ignited in his eyes.
The youkai that appeared in front of him was the one who nailed him to the tree. He was holding Kagome’s clothes in his dirty hands.
For a moment his heart had stopped. Then it resumed in a frenzied beat, threatening to burst out of his chest.
“What have you done with her, bastard?”
Toukajin wouldn’t dare…not on his watch…
The anger that was brewing in silence found outlet in a renewed surge of energy.
“Not Kagome, you fool,” he snarled as he broke through the vine-shackles, “she is off-limits for you.”
