Summary: Something in her bones told her.

Trouble was stirring. It was stirring like lightening in the distance, thunder crackling with fury.
The weariness that entered golden eyes, usually so bright in the anticipation of a conquest, of a challenge, and now dulled with life’s mistakes.
The ash that could be tasted in the wind, the smell of fire in the poor, scavenged villages at the mercy of a monster with red eyes, and the roar of victory over a battleground.
The soft weeping of an abandoned mother-to-be, knowing that her beloved may not return this time, a final kiss, a whispered goodbye, and no sparkling, dazzling smile that could evoke such emotion inside her. It was the feeling that made her fall in love with a beast.
She observed all of this from her place in the Castle, watched with narrowed eyes and a mask firmly in place. She knew the stirrings of war, knew the rebellion that was rising against their General, and she knew what that dimmed light meant in her husband’s eyes.

The war would come to a climax.
Trouble was brewing…
She could feel it in her bones and despite that she would remain fixated in her spot, uninvolved, determined that they would meet the fate that was destined.
Stone...
She would fulfill her role, to obey the instructions of her husband.
Ash filled the air, but there was no victory roar.
So she howled her sorrow at the death of her husband.
It mingled with that of a child’s cry.
