This weekend was much more straightforwardly good than last.
Saturday morning, there was hiking with the
mal,
paeyl, and the SubG. We went up to
Castle Rock State Park and did the normal hike.
Cryptic notes and
tiny, pink, anachronisms aside, we had an uneventful hike. I am not sure if we'd ever been there this time of year before or not; but I don't recall seeing so many caterpillars. It's a good time of year for flowers up there, too, and we saw all kinds.
I did chores saturday afternoon, and put in some time working on something for work. I guess I did some more work sunday morning, too. Also, the SubG caught me a common house spider outside the house and I took a couple of mediocre pictures of that.
Somehow in there, I've done rows and rows and rows of knitting on one of my secret projects. I don't find knitting itself that entertaining and I don't always like to spend hours just thinking about things inside my head. So, for entertainment I've had a couple of long conversations with the SubG,
KQED,
This America Life,
wait wait... don't tell me!,
pseudopod,
ESCAPE POD, some music, and more
KQED.
The choices of stories on psuedopod and ESCAPE POD are good; but some of their readers are really atrocious. They often try to do voices in a way that is ... worse than comical. It's strange to me that, being into reading aloud short fiction, they don't seem to have actually checked out any of the long running radio shows or podcasts that do exactly this.
Selected shorts is an excellent example of professionally read short fiction for a radio audience. And, the readers almost never do any kind of funny voices for different characters' dialog. It does happen sometimes. And it can be done well. And often it is the case they will do a bit different cadence or something like that for different speakers in the narrative. But, some of the readers from the aforementioned podcasts sound like they're doing a sock puppet show for children. A bad one.
Finally, there is my front yard. Everything in my front yard is in bloom, I think. I got some pretty nice macro shots of roses and one orange blossom picture I really dig.
