Those of you who have the knack of seeing British shows in other countries should be on the lookout for Dead Set. It's eviction night at the Big Brother house but outside the zombies are hungry. Imagine Shaun of the Dead without the comedy and you've pretty much got it. It's bloody and scary and kind of cool.

Reality TV is the devil. It sucks the life out of scripted entertainment. It melts the brain. It defies good taste and makes sadistic voyeurs of us all as we laugh/cheer/luxuriate in the humiliation of strangers. It creates celebrities of bullies, idiots, and chronic attention-seekers. I watch Heroes. I enjoy it. To me, it's the same hokum it has always been. Like most, I found Season 2 to be less compelling than Season 1, but it had its moments. I think Season 3 is more exciting than last season. It's got flaws, sure, quite a few, but it is still entertaining and some of the special effects are breathtaking. From what I'm ( Read more... )

Charlie Brooker writes for the Guardian and also has a wonderfully caustic show on the BBC about television called Screenwipes. It's worth seeing it if you can get hold of it. Before catching up with Friday's episode, I saw a few rave reviews of this being the best episode yet. I will admit to a wee bit of optimism, notwithstanding the familiar hyperbole of the show's fans. I mean, Heroes had a corker of an episode that led to many cries of forgiveness for previous faults.
