2014 Writing Reflections
I came back to writing in 2014 after about two years away. I posted my first fic of 2014 on August 18 and my last one on December 5. The above does not include the fic I wrote for Harry/Ron Holidays since that’s still anonymous. I’ll count it on 2015 totals.
Stats: In 3 ½ months, I wrote 203 fics with a total word count of 364,647! The majority were HP fandom, but there were also a few BTVS and STXI fandoms, as well as crossovers with HP/BTVS, HP/Marvel MCU, and HP/Teen Wolf. There were also two original fics, both of which have more kudos on AO3 than I ever expected.
My 10 longest fics were: Mischief Managed (Lily/Sirius) at 6650, Bliss (Hermione Sex Club) at 5880, Playing with Fire (Adrian/Hermione) at 5570, Strategy (Harry/Hermione/Ron) at 5480, Everybody’s Looking for Something (Hugo/Hannah/Neville) at 5355, Complications (Hermione/OMC) at 5025, Unprofessional Behavior (Kirley Duke/Hermione) at 4875, Performance (Hugo/Rosmerta) at 4610, For the Greater Good (Hermione/Dumbledore’s Army) at 4600, and A Bit of Fun (Cormac/Hermione) at 4300.
Trends: I wrote a lot of Hermione ships and a lot of Hugo ships. There was a lot of het and threesomes/moresomes, but there was also femmeslash, slash, and gen mixed in the bunch. I had several fics this year that had personal squicks of mine that I challenged myself to write & really enjoyed the outcome. I also had a bunch of taboo fics this year based on prompts that inspired me (themes were mostly age disparity and incest, with the occasional infidelity or non-con mixed in). Two of my favorite kinks are gangbangs and older woman/younger man, and I see a lot of that in this year’s fic. I also see a lot of threesomes, which I really enjoy writing. It’s a bit of a grab bag of variety this year, really, with no one pairing being overly dominant or even being written more than a half dozen times really. I explored more Next Gen characters than I have before, and some of the new ships involved those characters. I especially discovered a fondness for writing Hugo and James’ POV, as well as Rose/James and Hugo/Lily Luna.
Hugo Weasley became one of my loudest babies this year, talking to me constantly and being different characterization-wise than a lot of Hugo characterizations out there (so I’ve been told, as I don’t really read next gen fic). He is so interesting to me to write because he’s different than my norm, and he’s got such an odd view of things that it amuses me to let him talk. I also had a ton of Hermione, as always, with some ships I’ve never written before (her with Kirley Duke, Sanguini, some of the next gen boys, Justin, etc.). I explored Blaise/Hermione, Cormac/Hermione, Kingsley/Hermione, and a few others that I’ve always enjoyed and wanted to write more of. I also had a great time writing two Lily/Sirius fics and a couple of James/Sirius/Lily. Harry got pretty lucky with a bunch of different people, the Harry/Draco earning a lot of comments, but also with Parvatia, Romilda, Padma, and in threesome combinations with Hermione. I played with Bellatrix again briefly, and Narcissa inspired a few different ones I really liked. Ron is still chatty, and I discovered Ron/Scorpius as a new crush, as well as writing absolutely filthy slash smut with Ron/Harry/Seamus/Dean. Astoria/Draco inspired Slumming It, which was such an interesting challenge and I enjoyed the dynamic and twist there.
Personal Favorites: I actually enjoyed everything I wrote this year, in one way or another. I think the ones that stand out as ‘I’d rec this to someone because I really did love it’ would be:
♥ Hugo’s Conquest Verse: It’s not for everyone, but some parts aren’t as kinky, and some are very kinky. I just enjoy talking to Hugo and writing this verse.
♥ Playing with Fire: Adrian/Hermione is a personal favorite, and I love how this fic turned out. I want to write more of it.
♥ Unprofessional Behavior: Kirley Duke/Hermione is a ship I’ve never seen written, and I really liked fleshing out my Kirley and seeing how the dynamic might work between them. Another one I’d enjoy reading more of but that would mean having to write it. LOL
♥ Daddy & Pretty Boy: Ron/Scorpius was an unexpected discovery, and I enjoy their dynamic and the way their relationship developed in this series.
♥ Mischief Managed: Sirius/Lily in a way I’d never written them before, with a dominant Lily and some kinks I hadn’t written. I had such an awesome time writing this one for some reason.
♥ In Heat: Sirius/Lily with bestiality kink that I’ve never written so in depth before but again with loving their dynamic and the way their chemistry just made this so easy to write.
♥ Slumming It: The dynamic between Astoria/Draco in this, the mind games, the unsexy smut that is kinky and layered, and the twist just made me so proud of this one.
♥ Afternoon Delight: Hermione/Unknown in a way that I’ve often wanted to explore using some common magical potions and charms we know could be used in such a devious way.
♥ An Impasse & Further Experimentation: The two stories focus a lot on Tonks/Hermione, and I really like that possibility and the way Hermione just lost her inhibitions and embraced knowledge, and I had so much fun writing them both.
♥ Bliss: I wanted to take the sex club trope and use it as an exploration of sexuality and also of an individual learning how to let go of mental things in order to embrace the emotional using sex as a means to do so, while also using it to strengthen relationships. I had fun with this one, and it’s actually not even the kinkiest thing I wrote this year by far despite the sex club setting.
♥ This Charming Man: Cedric and Hermione dynamic, the background plot, and I just had fun writing their banter and letting them play off each other a lot.
♥ Take a Chance series: The Cormac/Hermione series let me explore their characters and have some good relationship development around what was supposed to be a one night stand, and I really like how the series turned out.
Gah. I don’t know. I’ll stop there or else I’ll list a dozen others that I really enjoyed how it felt writing them and I liked the finished product. An Unexpected Gift, Cruel & Unusual Punishment, Strategy, The Hard Way, the Spike/Hermione series, Complications, Unanticipated, For the Cause, The First Time, Rosie’s Mum Has Got it Going On, Nothing But Trouble, An Unexpected Visitor, Stress Relief, Such a Good Boy, Target/Checkmate, and Unpredictable would get honorable mentions.
In summary, 2014 was a pretty darn good year, especially considering I only wrote from August 18-December 5. I pushed myself to write different ships, characters, and kinks, and I managed a good variety of het/slash/femme/gen/threesomes. For 2015, my goals are to try more original fic and continue writing what I want to write while exploring different characters/ships and pushing my personal boundaries occasionally. 2014 Writing Reflections
I came back to writing in 2014 after about two years away. I posted my first fic of 2014 on August 18 and my last one on December 5. The above does not include the fic I wrote for Harry/Ron Holidays since that’s still anonymous. I’ll count it on 2015 totals.
Stats: In 3 ½ months, I wrote 203 fics with a total word count of 364,647! The majority were HP fandom, but there were also a few BTVS and STXI fandoms, as well as crossovers with HP/BTVS, HP/Marvel MCU, and HP/Teen Wolf. There were also two original fics, both of which have more kudos on AO3 than I ever expected.
My 10 longest fics were: Mischief Managed (Lily/Sirius) at 6650, Bliss (Hermione Sex Club) at 5880, Playing with Fire (Adrian/Hermione) at 5570, Strategy (Harry/Hermione/Ron) at 5480, Everybody’s Looking for Something (Hugo/Hannah/Neville) at 5355, Complications (Hermione/OMC) at 5025, Unprofessional Behavior (Kirley Duke/Hermione) at 4875, Performance (Hugo/Rosmerta) at 4610, For the Greater Good (Hermione/Dumbledore’s Army) at 4600, and A Bit of Fun (Cormac/Hermione) at 4300.
Trends: I wrote a lot of Hermione ships and a lot of Hugo ships. There was a lot of het and threesomes/moresomes, but there was also femmeslash, slash, and gen mixed in the bunch. I had several fics this year that had personal squicks of mine that I challenged myself to write & really enjoyed the outcome. I also had a bunch of taboo fics this year based on prompts that inspired me (themes were mostly age disparity and incest, with the occasional infidelity or non-con mixed in). Two of my favorite kinks are gangbangs and older woman/younger man, and I see a lot of that in this year’s fic. I also see a lot of threesomes, which I really enjoy writing. It’s a bit of a grab bag of variety this year, really, with no one pairing being overly dominant or even being written more than a half dozen times really. I explored more Next Gen characters than I have before, and some of the new ships involved those characters. I especially discovered a fondness for writing Hugo and James’ POV, as well as Rose/James and Hugo/Lily Luna.
Hugo Weasley became one of my loudest babies this year, talking to me constantly and being different characterization-wise than a lot of Hugo characterizations out there (so I’ve been told, as I don’t really read next gen fic). He is so interesting to me to write because he’s different than my norm, and he’s got such an odd view of things that it amuses me to let him talk. I also had a ton of Hermione, as always, with some ships I’ve never written before (her with Kirley Duke, Sanguini, some of the next gen boys, Justin, etc.). I explored Blaise/Hermione, Cormac/Hermione, Kingsley/Hermione, and a few others that I’ve always enjoyed and wanted to write more of. I also had a great time writing two Lily/Sirius fics and a couple of James/Sirius/Lily. Harry got pretty lucky with a bunch of different people, the Harry/Draco earning a lot of comments, but also with Parvatia, Romilda, Padma, and in threesome combinations with Hermione. I played with Bellatrix again briefly, and Narcissa inspired a few different ones I really liked. Ron is still chatty, and I discovered Ron/Scorpius as a new crush, as well as writing absolutely filthy slash smut with Ron/Harry/Seamus/Dean. Astoria/Draco inspired Slumming It, which was such an interesting challenge and I enjoyed the dynamic and twist there.
Personal Favorites: I actually enjoyed everything I wrote this year, in one way or another. I think the ones that stand out as ‘I’d rec this to someone because I really did love it’ would be:
♥ Hugo’s Conquest Verse: It’s not for everyone, but some parts aren’t as kinky, and some are very kinky. I just enjoy talking to Hugo and writing this verse.
♥ Playing with Fire: Adrian/Hermione is a personal favorite, and I love how this fic turned out. I want to write more of it.
♥ Unprofessional Behavior: Kirley Duke/Hermione is a ship I’ve never seen written, and I really liked fleshing out my Kirley and seeing how the dynamic might work between them. Another one I’d enjoy reading more of but that would mean having to write it. LOL
♥ Daddy & Pretty Boy: Ron/Scorpius was an unexpected discovery, and I enjoy their dynamic and the way their relationship developed in this series.
♥ Mischief Managed: Sirius/Lily in a way I’d never written them before, with a dominant Lily and some kinks I hadn’t written. I had such an awesome time writing this one for some reason.
♥ In Heat: Sirius/Lily with bestiality kink that I’ve never written so in depth before but again with loving their dynamic and the way their chemistry just made this so easy to write.
♥ Slumming It: The dynamic between Astoria/Draco in this, the mind games, the unsexy smut that is kinky and layered, and the twist just made me so proud of this one.
♥ Afternoon Delight: Hermione/Unknown in a way that I’ve often wanted to explore using some common magical potions and charms we know could be used in such a devious way.
♥ An Impasse & Further Experimentation: The two stories focus a lot on Tonks/Hermione, and I really like that possibility and the way Hermione just lost her inhibitions and embraced knowledge, and I had so much fun writing them both.
♥ Bliss: I wanted to take the sex club trope and use it as an exploration of sexuality and also of an individual learning how to let go of mental things in order to embrace the emotional using sex as a means to do so, while also using it to strengthen relationships. I had fun with this one, and it’s actually not even the kinkiest thing I wrote this year by far despite the sex club setting.
♥ This Charming Man: Cedric and Hermione dynamic, the background plot, and I just had fun writing their banter and letting them play off each other a lot.
♥ Take a Chance series: The Cormac/Hermione series let me explore their characters and have some good relationship development around what was supposed to be a one night stand, and I really like how the series turned out.
Gah. I don’t know. I’ll stop there or else I’ll list a dozen others that I really enjoyed how it felt writing them and I liked the finished product. An Unexpected Gift, Cruel & Unusual Punishment, Strategy, The Hard Way, the Spike/Hermione series, Complications, Unanticipated, For the Cause, The First Time, Rosie’s Mum Has Got it Going On, Nothing But Trouble, An Unexpected Visitor, Stress Relief, Such a Good Boy, Target/Checkmate, and Unpredictable would get honorable mentions.
In summary, 2014 was a pretty darn good year, especially considering I only wrote from August 18-December 5. I pushed myself to write different ships, characters, and kinks, and I managed a good variety of het/slash/femme/gen/threesomes. For 2015, my goals are to try more original fic and continue writing what I want to write while exploring different characters/ships and pushing my personal boundaries occasionally.
