No Country for Old Men: This is a movie with a fine pedigree; based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy, produced and directed by the Coen Brothers and starring a plethora of the better Hollywood actors including Tommy Lee Jones and one of my favourites Scotswoman Kelly Macdonald. Particularly for alustrialcrafts BBC Photojournalism piece on a geiko and her okasan. I had forgotten until I looked at the desk that I had given Mason the money to pick me up Kimono by Liza Dalby this evening. I'm horribly depressed to find that I have the photo from the front cover on my wall already.

On a similar note I found today that Vintage have done a reprint of Liza Dalby's book Kimono, which I had thought I was going to be paying through the nose for online. This and The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents will probably be the last books I'll be buying before I leave. 2 books in 6 weeks. God how depressing.

Arthur Golden really irritates me. He's not an expert on Geisha and yet he continues to speak as if he were a world authority, it's like Stephen King giving a discussion on the paranormal or Thomas Harris giving a lecture on serial killer psychology.

I'll be intrigued to see what the movie conversion of Memoirs of a Geisha will be like... I can't ( Read more... )
