Ran myself ragged at work today prepping for next week. We got in a shipment o' stuff, but it has to go out pronto because we'll be getting our normally-Friday shipment on Wednesday next week, to add to the other prep we have to do. It's done. I pinned it to the waistband last night; I pleated the back third, after hemming and hawing and poking people to give input and looking at pics of the pattern examples on TV (the pattern calls for one to turn it under and put in a drawstring). I did in fact work on the skirt this morning; I plotted the shape and frequency of the contrast pattern on the skirt, made a pattern for it, and cut it out. I figured facing it with bias tape would be easiest by far, but since I had planned 1/2" seam allowance I needed fairly wide tape...and of course I didn't have enough of any one kind. I did in fact manage to work on my dress today; sewed the mockup all together and tried it on....and discovered that it has some serious fit issues. How this happened when the first mockup fit pretty well I don't know, but it's really really frustrating. And then I went back into work (after working till 3 instead of 2) because I heard it was horribly awful. We need about twice as many people as we have right now and it's really, really bad. I still haven't gotten around to even deciding whether to make a petticoat of tulle or muslin scraps; I'd have to buy the tulle, but it fluffs with much less volume and weight, whereas I already have the muslin scraps, but I'd have to hem them and do a bit more sewing to make the same amount of fluff ( Read more... )

It's getting more and more and more stressful. Very understaffed, and half the staff there is seriously incompetent. This morning, for example....no, watching anime on your tablet while you work is not a thing you can do. Put it the @%#$ away! I just got a kind of-new job - moved to another location, so it's mostly a "lateral move", as the Distric Manager puts it. Teensy bit of a raise, mostly eaten up by the extra mileage. Lame.
