This morning I put on "Strange Empire" while I whipped down the inside of the skirt waistband and sewed up the facing with huge-o stitches. Once I'd finished that I couldn't really procrastinate on the bodice any further, and cut out another 'mockup' of the fabric I intend to use as lining, and it had more issues than before, somehow. I did in fact manage to work on my dress today; sewed the mockup all together and tried it on....and discovered that it has some serious fit issues. How this happened when the first mockup fit pretty well I don't know, but it's really really frustrating. FlufflyRuffly Petticoat is done, including a hook and eye (I KNOW!). Chemise is also done, hemmed and everything. Even pressed the yoke once I sewed down the inside, haha. I took the lining out of the paletot, popped the outer on inside-out, and sewloud and mandie_rw very kindly poked and clipped and pinned it to try to make it fit better. I've been veeeeery slowly poking at my jacket. This jacket was about 90% completed during a local sewing day before we discovered that the skirts made an awkward bloopy fold above the petticoat, which they had not done in the mockup. So after almost finishing the thing, I was back to square one.

So after 80bajillion mockups (seriously, at least 6) I came to the conclusion that the first sleeve, the one STRAIGHT out of PoF, with no alterations, fits the best. Shoot me.
At least I can cut it out of the fashion fabric now...?

While waiting for my Truly Victorian order to ship/arrive so I can dive into a bustle gown, I have been stop-and-go working on my mockup for a bib-front regency dress. I started with the pattern on pg. 48 of PoF, but it has taken me 5 backs and 4 fronts and several tweaks in between to arrive at what I hope is my final pattern. I was even good ( Read more... )
