Costumes at work

So this weekend at work we were allowed to wear costumes - Saturday through today, that is. After making sure I wouldn't be the only one doing it (because if I were I wouldn't bother) I chose to wear my Disney Alice dress which I made last year. I made a half-assed quickie tulle-petticoat thing to go under it, but a few months ago I bought a crinoline on Amazon, and it fit perfectly underneath! Hurray!  I had to put a pocket on the pinafore so it would actually be useful, and I raised the waistband on it about 1/2" so it wouldn't buckle so badly.

Naturally the top corner of the pocket tore on Saturday about halfway through the day! So Saturday night after I washed and dried the whole outfit (which had gotten rather sweaty due to it being unseasonably warm, again; GO AWAY SUMMER WEATHER IT'S NOVEMBER NOW), I put a square of fabric on the back of the pinafore to reinforce the pocket. That did the trick on Sunday, but my tights kept creeping down, and I got awfully warm - partly due to lots of poly and the crinoline and so on, and partly because the air had not been adjusted for 'oh is it october? are you sure?' so it was pretty warm inside all day.

So today I wore the robe and hat I made for the Harry Potter festival a week ago. The unfinished seam allowance on the hat was awfully scratchy on my forehead, but it was quite fun to swoosh about with my robe billowing behind me! I couldn't see it, of course, but I could FEEL it. Props to Snape for his billowing skillz! I broke my wand - which I had in the wand pocket, Just In Case - when I leaned over a counter, but I joked that Ron taped his together and it still worked, so mine probably would too. Or I could make a new one, someday. ;)   No pictures, because I'm lame. Hopefully someday I'll get pics of the HP stuff! There are a couple of pics of the Alice getup on my FB, though.

Now I will hide from trick-or-treaters and watch tv, and nurse the headache that's been growing all day. Maybe I'll even plan some of the stuff I'll need for Newcastle in roughly a month.
