In which I suck at corsets, as expected
I futzed over this one so much I thought it would come out right, but it turned out a bit too small! That's better than too big, I guess but it's SO ANNOYING *keysmash*. The lacing gap is about 4" rather than the 2" I was aiming for. And it's also rather too large directly under the bust, so it's loose there and the overall effect is a bit ( Read more... ) -

Today was supposed to be "do lots of things with the corset" day, since I was off...but my toothache made me mope all morning, and although the pain is about the same as a bad headache, the TYPE of pain is super-distracting! corset musings
Ok so I think I have it basically figured out (I trimmed teeny bits from the top third of each side, and pinned some extension pieces on the tops of the front pieces), but now I have to figure out how to stabilize my fabric! I got a pretty ivory sateen with a figured dot....but it's like 3% spandex, which Just Won't Work! I know I'm going to put ( Read more... ) -

as I avoid mocking up a new corset. In the last day or two I've been chipping away at putting away the contents of all the reusable bags that were sitting around. Bits of fabric, costume bits, clothes from when I was staying with my family, some purchases.... corset progress - basically done now!
I've sewn the drawstring into the top of the bust and done the last two eyelets (to which the shoulder straps will tie). I sanded down one chunk of busk-length wood and the regency tooshort!busk to 120, and put a coat of varnish on side one. Let's see...when I last posted I was working on my pre-Raph outfit. I got it all finished in good time (i.e. several days before the event), even pressed it all and was pondering trim, but then we were forecasted for several inches of snow. In mid-April. Insanity. I haz Victorian corset
Used Simplicity 9769 for this - finished it in about 4 days(?) after getting and washing and drying the fabric, of course. I rammed the machine needle into bones at least 3 times while sewing on the top binding. It went 'glunk!' and stopped. As soon as the binding was done I threw it out, heh ( Read more... )
