After five years in Halifax, I've finally gone dancin' at Reflections Cabaret, thanks to Märta and her wonderful cookie-themed birthday party. Attended Faculty Forum today as a student rep. Vaguely interesting, as they discussed implimenting the Master of Design program. Problem is, I forgot that this meeting was at noon and didn't make adequate provisions for lunch. Nor will I be at rez for supper for Egypt class. I found a great new Internet radio station- or should I say service? Well, anyway, it's Magnatune. You can listen to streaming radio or entire albums. The catch is that the artists are obscure (and they would like to you buy their stuff eventually), but I'm always on the lookout for new world and ambient sounds, so it works ( Read more... )

Success! Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land was procured at the public library. I also found the Best of Bowie DVD on sale at Sam the Record Man, which I'd been meaning to buy for three years. Why is Coldplay's Talk just Kraftwerk's Computer Love? Why can't today's pop-rock stars write their own melodies? (Or at least get their writers to do this.) Don't even get me started on Jet. :/ It's the equivilant of Duchamp's Mona Lisa with a moustache, only Duchamp knew it was a joke and not a masterwork. I fear now we've lost the distinction.
