I tend to have to do themed sets of recs for The X-Files because I have hundreds of stories saved and it’s difficult to choose. The other night I re-read the first story in this set and it gave me the idea to rec my favourites from the Biogenesis arc.

Silence Waiting is two parallel stories about love and mind-reading. One is, of course, Mulder and Scully’s story. The other belongs to two original characters. Their story reflects and illuminates the relationship between Mulder and Scully, but it also stands on its own. Gretta and Fredrick aren’t simply ciphers; they’re people you grow to care for.
This is a story about listening: to another, to yourself, to what’s not being said. It’s about the kind of love that is quiet, but fierce, and precious.

Because it’s erotic and intimate without containing any sex and barely any touching. Like the bulk of Mulder and Scully’s relationship in canon, it is almost entirely cerebral.
This is a post-Biogenesis story that was jossed by the events of Amor Fati. It takes place in Mulder’s head: his experience of experiencing Scully while he’s still under the influence of the alien artefact. And then the aftermath, when that influence is gone.
Ambress is one of my favourite XF writers and this story is part of my head!canon.
Her thoughts played over him like tickling fingers--the small oval pads of her fingertips touching him everywhere. Like bodies in space, including the earth, he was marked wherever the meteors of her thoughts touched him.

Because it’s a wonderful tracing of the path between Mulder getting out of the hospital (the one he obviously would’ve had to go to after Scully got him out of wherever it was CSM gave him brain surgery) and the scene in his doorway at the end of Amor Fati.
Woven Deep deals tenderly with the subjects raised in the Biogenesis arc, namely Diana and Mulder’s apocalyptic visions. There is humour, gentle flirting, sleeping together (just sleeping), and actual talk about feelings. The events of the flashback sequences in Per Manum are also woven into the story to make a coherent whole. Scully is vulnerable and Mulder is sweet and the whole thing is just lovely.
