Where indeed? I've been ice skating, anyway, at least weekdays. Weekends are a little rough with the later opening time and warmer weather. There has been one holiday party, December 4. Saturday night I went to a raw food potluck which was excellent. Another potluck Monday night with the hike leaders which wasn't officially vegetarian but I could make it as vegetarian as I wanted by choosing what to eat. For Thanksgiving I went light, not vegan but meatless. I wonder if I can convince everybody at Christmas to go vegetarian? And ( Read more... )

The ice rink opened at 11 am February 16. When it closed at 5 pm, it closed for the season. Perhaps the thinking is that trying to keep it open is a lost cause, even though this is the coldest February I've seen. Some decision has to be made on the rink. Interesting line from Saturday Night Fever. I've never seen the movie but I've caught bits of it here and there. I can't understand the appeal it ever had. From what I've seen, characters that should have audience sympathy, don't, while characters that should not have audience sympathy, do. An upside down world, indeed. There's a plan for some group ice skating and dinner for February 11. I skated last Wednesday night to see how the evening ice conditions are. I hit a rough spot and went down on my butt. I was sore a few days but didn't have too much trouble returning yesterday. Early mornings are cold but things warm up during the day, which of course plays havoc ( Read more... )

So the rink goes out with a whimper. It's supposed to stay open until next Sunday, but it won't make it. Daytime temperatures melt it more than I've ever seen it melt in past seasons. Of course it opens at night but the ice is really bad. I'll try it a few more nights next week, but I think it's a lost cause.

What happened to the rink? It closed, probably last Friday, then reopened this Friday. Apparently it borrowed a freezer for opening week but had to return it before the new one was installed. Ice skating has begun. The rink opened Wedenesday night and I've been there every day, and will continue to do so every free day until it closes at the end of February. Thanksgiving was good, but not vegan, or even vegetarian. We'll never get the family to make that kind of change.
