Where's the excitement?

Where indeed? I've been ice skating, anyway, at least weekdays. Weekends are a little rough with the later opening time and warmer weather. There has been one holiday party, December 4. I broke down and made the meatless enchiladas from Diet for a Small Planet finally after a few years of sticking with salads. I've also been getting rid of malware from my computer. Back in September, when Dish was supposed to pull the plug on my service, I got the bright idea to try to bring some TV programming through my computer. All that did was open things up to an invasion of malware. And Dish didn't pull the plug in September, anyway, but began doing so in November. It's still sending a few channels. I'm sure they'll disappear soon enough.

Kushner is an intelligent, sensitive writer capable of serious thinking and writing. It is possible to enjoy and appreciate this well-crafted production, but the play’s conclusion that change is inevitable ("The world only spins forward"), and that we should embrace it so we can all get along harmoniously, is simplistic and not terribly convincing.

It is doubtful where there is any greater degree of mystification, in any sphere of economics or politics, than in the way financial market operations are described.

The documents obtained by WikiLeaks--only a small fraction of which have been released so far--help expose what is a permanent conspiracy against the democratic rights of the world's population: from covering up US bombings of civilians in Yemen, to working behind the scenes to obstruct the prosecution of CIA agents guilty of torture, to spying on UN officials in violation of international treaties.

Sunday, December 12 marks ten years since the US Supreme Court effectively decided the outcome of the 2000 presidential election, halting the counting of votes in Florida and awarding the White House to George W. Bush. The 5-4 ruling in Bush v. Gore, together with the contemptible capitulation of the Democratic Party, constituted a milestone in the decay of American democracy.
