When I finished up at Melbourne IT last year I was presented with a well-selected gift voucher for Minotaur and I managed to not use it until tonight. I did, however, exceed the voucher, but that didn't really come as a surprise.

I finished Shantaram earlier this week and I can honestly say it's one of the best novels I've read in years! I highly recomend it to everyone!

It's heavily based on the experiences of the author during the 1980s while on the run, following his escape from Pentridge Prison, and is absolutely amazing. His writing style is incredibly elegant, ( Read more... )

I've started reading what is shaping up to be an absolutely fantastic book which came highly recomended by an old friend, Niggles. It is very definitely not the final instalment in the Harry Potter franchise. I finished The Count of Monte Christo the other day and I really wonder why I waited this long. I suspect I'll be re-reading The Three Musketeers soon; though mainly to get around to the sequels, Twenty Years After and The Vicomte de Bragelonne, which I discovered I do own after all, along with The Man In The Iron Mask. I've been re-reading a bit of Zelazny recently, even taking time out from Dune to re-read Lord of Light, and I've been wondering about something. I know there are a number of Zelazny fans reading this, so it's time to try this poll thing.

Last night I finished the third and final installment in John Birmingham's Axis of Time trilogy and I must say that it was a fantastic read. A pity I can't recall who recommended them to me.

I'd try writing a brief review, but Crystal wants to sit on the keyboard, so I'd better distract her with food instead. ;)

I went to Polyester Books the other day; a place I don't often visit due to its tendency to result in me leaving with things. This time I picked up a copy of How To Make War: A Comprehensive Guide to Modern Warfare in the 21st Century (4th edition) by James F. Dunnigan.
