I've started reading what is shaping up to be an absolutely fantastic book which came highly recomended by an old friend, Niggles. It is very definitely not the final instalment in the Harry Potter franchise. It's the (semi-?)autobiography of Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram.
Just like Harry Potter, Roberts learned many lessons in an old building populated by ghosts. Unlike Potter, when Roberts had learned all he could there and was ready to leave he climbed over the wall of Pentridge, between twin gun towers, in broad daylight.
Roberts has two other advantages over the Harry Potter novels: he's not fictitious and his writing is much better; his style is far more elegant and engaging.
I'm only into the second chapter too, so I'll save any real raving or recomendations of my own until I've finished it.
