Finally on board the shinkansen for Tokyo. We checked out of the ryokan this morning, but left our luggage while we spent a final few hours traipsing about Kyoto. We bought day passes for the Raku 100 sightseeing buses again and set off for Nijo-jo.

Now we are sitting in a Haagen-Dazs Cafe in Hiroshima, having spent the day here. We got up way too early this morning to catch the shinkansen to Hiroshima-eki, but it paid off -- we arrived around 10:30 a.m. and thus had plenty of time to explore the Peace Park and museum, plus to get lunch and visit Hiroshima-jo.

We are on the train to Nara, where we play to see the giant bronze Buddha at Todai-ji. It's a pleasant ride with view of rice paddies, tiled-roof homes, and green, forested mountains in the distance. We'll probably keep our visit to Nara short so that we can also make it to Osaka today ( Read more... )

Today has been a day of temple-hopping. Our first stop was Higashi Hongan-ji, as it's just a few blocks from our ryokan. A few blocks away from there was the temple to which Higashi was built as a rival, Nishi Hongan-ji. They are both beautiful, tranquil spots in the middle of a busy area of the city ( Read more... )

We slept a little late. Definitely needed that. We didn't get to any panels before the end because we went to the post office to mail some of our stuff home to us. Even using the 3-week shipping, it still cost over $100. Ouch! Worth it not to have to schlep all that stuff, though. [Of course, not so worth it after finding that ( Read more... )

Got up earlier today than yesterday. Today is costume day! Trowa is dressed as Neo and I am dressed as Princess Fiona. We are receiving a lot of attention, especially me, since I'm green. :) We spent some time in the exhibition hall, checking out the various tables and posing for pictures.
