As fine as it felt to finish on the first day, it felt even finer to have walked across the finish line that day. When I worked it out later, I figured that I had walked approximately 52.6 miles out of 60. kimberlogic told me that someone in the know had said the average completion is 38 miles. Holy CRAP last night was freezing! And I awoke in the middle of it to pee again. Argh! Getting out of bed in the cold, wet dark was torture, too. Having walked 12.5 miles so far, we have stopped for lunch. We awoke at hours I consider obscene -- Trowa at 4:00 a.m., me at 5:00 a.m., and taura_g at 5:30 a.m. -- got to Washington Nationals Stadium just at break of dawn for the opening ceremony, and began walking somewhere around 7:30 a.m. It is now about 2:12 p.m. We've rambled through ( Read more... )

A snippet in time from yesterday's inaugural activities. This is us disembarking at Capitol South Metro station to find a huge, but well-managed and good-natured, crowd. I've never been in a happier crush of humanity. :)
