urggghhh...

So things are mostly going OK...but I have to have a "procedure" next week, and I'm finding out that my inexpensive student insurance will leave me with between $1000-$1500 out-of-pocket expenses IF all goes well.  Since I have to do this extremely uncomfortable "procedure" without pain meds (long story), it's going to be important for me to be relaxed.

I called my mom to bitch and now my 76 year old mom is insisting on helping me pay for the damn thing.  So the money worry is somewhat lessened and I'm trying not to feel bad about accepting her money.   *sigh*

On the up side, I got my back utility room repainted and got the light switch replaced and did not electrocute either myself or the cat who decided that the best time to rub all over me and release clouds of hair is when my hands are full of 50 year old light switch and wiring.  And yes, I know enough to turn off the breaker when I'm working on the wiring.   And one more room in my house is tidier and better organized than it was before.

Daughter started school yesterday.  In her AP US History class (A-push is how you pronounce that), she was asked who in history she would like to meet and what she wanted to ask that person.  She said "Thomas Jefferson, because he is thought to have been Unitarian in his thinking, and I would want to ask how Unitarian ideas were different then than they are today."  Or words to that effect.  I think this totally rocks as a question and as an indicator of her curiosity and intellectual competence.  And then she gets 1200 lb horses to carry her over 3-foot fences.  What a great kid!

I start classes next week, but yesterday I spent several (required) hours listening to basic grad student orientation.  Since I have worked at and studied at OU for over 20 years, most of the data was redundant, but I did have some good conversations with interesting people.  And I picked up most of my books for my grading classes in Religious Studies; I get to read Paul Tillich's The Courage to Be and Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, both of which are classics in modern thought, so it should be fun.

Sunday I have an audition for an independent film, and I may have an audition for a musical on Tuesday, but maybe not if I have to prep for my "procedure" on Wednesday.   And I have to prep for my class on Monday night, which I had really hoped would be done by now but it didn't work that way.

And the weather is great!  So I really can't complain too much...

Peaces,
H.
