So, apparently Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, plans to divert money from the Department of Justice to pay for the Republicans' fight to defend the constitutionality of DOMA.

I've commented a bit on it here.

But, the tl;dr of it is, "so this is what they considering worth spending money on!". :|

Originally, the House bill included a provision that would have protected against discrimination in health care on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. It also gave tax protections for domestic partners covered under health care (currently, gay employees have to pay taxes on that benefit, while married, heterosexual couples do not). As we know, there was some good political theater with the Senate hearing on repealing DADT. It may be in a different chamber, but now the Speaker of the House is saying a repeal of DADT may wait until after the 2010 midterm elections, when Democrats are likely to lose seats.
