"I traded sunshine for the pouring rain."

A wintry day in Alabama. There is more than five inches of snow in some areas north of us. So far, nothing here, and we may be spared, but there's a good chance we'll get freezing rain after dark. And the temperatures are plummeting into the teens Fahrenheit. Currently, overcast and a balmly 41F.

Between preparing for the possible ice and only getting about four hours sleep, this was not the day I meant it to be. Sirenia Digest 213 is not ready to go out. However, I did proof "Gorgon." I did a litte work on Bashi gastropods.

The afternoon's film was the director's cut of Alex Proyas' brilliant Dark City (1998).

Last night was the premiere of thne long-awaited (at least by Spooky and I) fourth season of True Detective, which is meant to tie in fairly directly with Season One. And I will admit it was not quite what I'd hoped, at least not yet. It does not have the mood, the quiet. It's a little busy, with an awful lot of characters and plot threads tossed out in the first episode. But. It does have potential. It's more truly weird fiction than Season One, clearly veering much more towards horror and science fiction. No surprise, Jodie Foster steals the show. And Kali Reis' Evangeline Navarro has a lot of potential (and a very fine character name). So, we shall see. So far, it feels a bit like The Thing meets Twin Peaks.

The numbered copy of Tales of the Woeful Platypus sold yesterday (and thank you!), but there's still lots of cool goodies in the Dreaming Squid Sundries shop.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2024, I leave you with one of my favorite MLK quotes:

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction." MLK, Jr. fr. "Loving Your Enemies" (Christmas 1957)
