The Washington Capitals just hired Adam Oates to be the new head coach. He replaces Dale Hunter, and joins Jim Johnson on the coaching staff. Suddenly it's the late 90s and I'm hanging out at Caps practice.

I'll Have Another may not have run, but the Belmont turned out to be quite the race anyway. I thought Paynter might actually pull off the wire-to-wire thing. Darn close though. Spent a lot of last night watching sports news and looking for the autographs and photos I have of the players who died. I have come to a conclusion: whatever filing system I was using for my autographs made sense to me at the time, but it surely doesn't now. I didn't expect to find my photos, but I thought I'd come up with more than 2 autographs. ( Read more... )

One of my past lives was as a diehard hockey fan (and, for a time, journalist) and normally when the Capitals aren't involved, I root for the Canadian teams. And I've never been especially fond of the Bruins. But the boorish-at-best and thuggish-at-worst behavior of the Canucks' players already had me rooting for the Bruins, ( Read more... )
