Really? Huh. Maybe it could have been in the hands of a less talented actor, but JP kind of blew me away throughout most of the episode. From his flinch when "Jess" touched him at the start to his obvious horror at Lucifer's request at the end - I was impressed throughout. What was it that you found cliched? Curious minds and all that. *g*
I don't think there was anything in it that I disliked, to be honest. Maybe the implication that Dean used to regularly frequent whorehouses. Really? Someone who looks like Dean and has his general skills with picking up women is going to feel the need to pay for sex? Somehow I'm not thinking that to be the case.
Everything else though? Smart!Sam (I loled a bit though when I saw he'd pulled up Revelation in gothic script Latin - NIV no longer sufficient for his needs? Still, swanky Latin skills are always a plus) and Dean's mouthing off to Raphael, even Castiel's complete bafflement and the reason he got them kicked out of the brothel - it was all good.
Oh Man. It was epically good. Really. Great one liners, and the D/C time was time worth spent. I especially loved Cas' fear of girls, and then the later snarking off to "that teenage ninja turtle."
I also thought that JP's acting was really great. The terror on his face when he was told he was the host and then when he told Lucifer that he would kill himself, and L told him that he'd just bring him back.
I think that they've upped the ante. I really can't wait to see where they go next.
PS- I don't think I'm posting tonight... But I will need your mad beta-fuing.... I've... ahh... added some stuff...
The Dean and Castiel bits were pretty epic. So were the Sam bits, but for a rather different reason. I adored Dean straightening Castiel's tie and doing up his top button and then having to reach out and flip Castiel's FBI badge the right way up. "He's new." LOL - in so very many ways...
Yeah, JP really brought it to the table this time. I was incredibly impressed by him and what he pulled off. He had some extremely subtle reactions and expressions, nothing was over the top to me.
Next episode is going to be one of the epic ones, IMHO. Just lookit that preview - we've got good times ahead!
Send me what you've got, sister mine, and I'll gladly take a look. Hopefully the notes I left made sense because I've never really done the full on beta work before. :)
Hmmm! I think I'll still keep Mystery Spot at the top of my favorite Sammysodes. But I liked this one well enough. I loved the Jessica scenes and the scene with Lucifer at the end, but I have to admit all the bar stuff and the hunter stuff kind of dragged for me. Maybe its because I didn't find any of the other characters compelling in any way. But it got the job done so it is what it is.
The Dean/Cas stuff was rather adorable even if I didn't really buy the idea of Dean being that familiar with hookers. But the chemistry between Misha and Jensen is so much fun and the two characters just click in a way that I can't really explain, but I do love it.
Oooh, Mystery Spot. You raise a very valid point! Okay, second favorite episode then, because really, nothing tops MS for me.
The Dean/Cas stuff WAS adorable, but the hooker thing didn't work for me at all. Would it be plausible that Dean would know how to find a whorehouse? Sure, I can see him having had to work a case in one before. It seemed a bit pat though that he could find one that quickly in a random town that he has no familiarity with.
(Worse still, a small town in Maine. I can practically guarantee you that you're not going to have bordellos of that sort in Maine. The locals Would Not Approve. More to the point, it's hard enough finding a decent bar when you're in rural New England, much less a sex shop

I don't have a problem with Dean finding brothel. Mostly, it is knowing where to look and Dean is a very good investigator. Dean, also, grew-up in the seedy side on the tracks must have known some working girls.
Plus, I noticed Dean was not looking to get himself hooked up he was just drinking and flirting while Castiel was in one of the back rooms.
I'm pretty sure that Dean has known working girls before. Heck, if we're to believe Jensen Ackles' commentary, Dean was a working boy at once point

I also liked Levee better I think. Because I felt somehow that it was a more honest look at what was going on inside Sam in some ways. But maybe that's because this episode didn't deal with Sam's feelings for Dean at all. Hopefully that will come soon though. *fingerscrossed*
Yeah I think a scene with Dean trying to teach Cas how to pick up hot chicks at a bar, could have been equally hilarious. But then they probably couldn't have gotten the DeadBeatDaddy anvils in. ;)
I enjoyed Levee, but the wank surrounding that episode and Bobby's random attitude shifts spoiled it for me. Too many people who took Sam's hallucinations as utter proof that, no really, Sam was doing the right thing and was on the right path and Dean was being an idiot for daring to think him in the wrong - it got tiring. I sort of wanted to smack Dean for leaving Sam alone, for that matter.
Pretty sure we're going to get some input on Sam's feelings for Dean soon, and hopefully even see something where Dean figures out what he's feeling himself. I keep seeing posts from people declaring that Dean's just in denial and he's fooling no one, but I think the situation is a lot more complex than that. While it's not really fair to Sam, I think Dean's relating his remaining horror about Hell and his terror in S3 (and perhaps even the issues with Sam's "destiny" in S2 and John's disappearance and death in S1) with Sam now and so of course it's going to feel like a weight lifted to no longer have to deal with all of that. And that's a

I dunno. There's been awful lot of wank around this episode as well but that's not my issue with it. Mostly it's just how boring certain scenes were to me.

And that's a lot more difficult to work through than a petulant "I'm just FINE without him!" sour grapes sort of attitude. Yeah I don't think Dean is just in denial. That scene was way more complex than that. I think there was a substantial amount of truth

Yeah I don't think Dean is just in denial. That scene was way more complex than that. I think there was a substantial amount of truth in his declaration but that doesn't mean that he's stopped loving or missing his brother. These characters are capable of having more than one emotion at a time, contradictory though they may be. :)Exactly! That's why I get so annoyed when people are all "oh, he's just in denial! He'll come around!" because while I do think Dean is trying to subsume how much he misses his brother, his anger is a real and valid emotion, as is his resentment and his relief at not having to deal withhis family any more
